SP/Casita Brewing Company Collaboration flim flam

Due to our Holiday Hours, you or your proxy will have 4 weeks to pick up this package. Pickups will begin Friday, Dec. 23rd from 1pm-8pm. We will reopen on Monday, Dec. 26th at 3pm.

Package: SP/Casita Collab flim flam, Coeur de Cuvée Blend #10, Pulling Nails Blend #15 & Red Plum du Blé
    $170.00

A blend of Barrel-Aged Rye Barleywines - a heavy Maris Otter malt bill enhanced with 3 different rye malts and then heavily boiled until we hit gravity. After fermenting with a strong English yeast strain, we aged this beer in Willett Rye, Willett Family Estate Bourbon and California Ruby Port barrels for 28 months before picking the final blend. We bottled this beer in June and have let it rest until now to share with you.

    ABV: 15% | 750ml

Rye barleywine sounds amazing, and it probably will be, but I passed on the bottle at $60, didn't even think about the package. I just traded for a box of Ryeway/VSOR/Boss Ryeway. My Ryewine itch has been scratched and didn't even break the bank to do it.

I’m passing just because of the ridiculous amount I’ve spent on beer the past month or so. No hate at SP for the pack, just sitting this one out.

    Cheers!

If they would have bundled it with just one other bottle, maybe two at most, I would have considered it. Is it just me or are these bundles getting bigger?

This is tough because I agree. That beer sounds great to me, but I already have two of the other bottles in the pack. And like @KevinJohnson2 the ridiculous amounts I’ve spent lately gives me pause.

I’ll likely stare at it in the store and if it lingers too long I’ll probably succumb to a purchase.

Times are a changing. The beer game is different now than what is was a few years ago. People are willing to spend big money like they used to, and this package is so expensive that after paying a proxy and shipping costs it’s cheaper to just buy secondary.

Not hating on the way these bottles are bundled, but I feel like the days of having FOMO are long gone for me.

It's not strictly a price issue either (although that's certainly a factor) but I currently have 15 barleywines sitting in my home office closet/beer cellar and I'm rarely drinking more than 1 high ABV beer in a week so there's just no need to further stock a cellar that's already growing faster than I'm drinking

I might have bit at $90, but I don’t need another 3 sours that aren’t selling and might get bundled with something else I care more about for a $60 BW. I certainly don’t need another $200 package.

    Incredibly easy pass.

Never knew my FOMO had a price until today.

Still, no F's given for SP. It sold out in 30ish min.

Ironically, this is the one time I logged on and noticed the package was up like even a minute before it was posted here - so I could easily have jumped all over it - but just didn't have it in me this time around.

I do like that they notify folks of sales via the email push now instead of relying solely on IG. I have been trying to rid myself of IG for a while now and was hanging on bc of SP. It also seems most fair this way. Anyway.. I could really only see myself pulling the trigger on any package now if I’ve got a group of buddies to split it with as kind of a pre-made share.

3 bottles seems like a high price of admission for an unknown / unusual (kind of) collab. don’t get me wrong, Flim Flam sounds awesome and those other three bottles included are great, but when you’re bundling non-white labels price gets steep fast.

I would be more inclined to pull the trigger on a $170 bundle if it was more diversified in styles being offered. Instead of three sours just package one and then a couple different 4pks. Wild ales and sours are the absolute lest of what I drink and by a huge margin so when I have to buy three beers I will most likely never drink just to get the one bottle I actually want it makes it an easy decision to pass. Not completely hating on the bundles because I understand why they do them, but it wouldn't hurt them to mix things up a bit.

I said before that packages would be more popular (if still hated on - everyone agrees packages are BS) if they just allowed you to pick what it was bundled with. Give some options. They won’t do that, because they bundle it with stuff that isn’t selling. They won’t bundle it with canned beer, because those actually sell out. Some of the sours just sit for forever though.

Never been happier to skip on a SP package. Every beer happens for a reason.

Hard to tell, but maybe 4 or 5 boxes left from the stack they were pulling from just now. Not a huge crowd.

Maybe this has been asked before, but why does Side Project continue to make sours that don't sell unless they are packaged with stouts or barleywines? The allure of their sours has waned significantly over the past few years as has the demand for sours in the general craft beer market. Why not just make more stouts and barleywines if that's what people want?

That's a seriously unpopular question to ask, and why it hasn't been asked. That's the only reason it hasn't been discussed at length. I think most everyone that has expressed frustration at pricing and/or packages over the last 6-8 months has wondered why they are producing so much of these beers. There's for sure a lag from production to bringing it to market, but...still.

For sure, they have to produce it. They can't only produce stouts/BWs. But it seems like they'd be better off producing more of what will sell. -Unless the prevailing thought is that more supply will result in lower demand, and thus as long as they can bundle (seems to be getting harder), they will, and that's the best route to take.

But, I think there is writing on the walls.
