Below is the label for the next release in Sierra Nevada's Beer Camp series. This entry in the series is called Tropical IPA and looks to be their Spring Seasonal in 2016. It will be brewed at both Chico, CA and Mills River, NC so it looks to be a nationally distributed beer. It will be packaged in 12oz bottles (presumably 6pks) and will clock in at 6.7%abv and 55ibu. Can't wait to try this one!

I'm on board as well and will be on the lookout. Am curious to know what specific kind(s) of hop varietals are being used in this one?

Will I gladly try this SN IPA? Yes. Was I hoping that their Beer Camp seasonal would be anything but an IPA? Also yes.

I had the same question because I'm hoping this beer will resemble Deschutes Fresh Squeezed. Who wouldn't want to pick up a fresh 12 pack of beers like that?

This sounds great! My only issue is if this is a collaboration beer, why aren't you giving credit to your collaborater?... The beer camp in 2014 was my favorite for obvious reasons, but I definitely liked that SNevada gave credit to their partner breweries on so many of the beers.

Just when I was getting excited about winter seasonals, along comes something to make me eager for next spring!

Wonder how this will compare to Elysian's Dayglow IPA which has a similar profile.

Personally, I am not a fan of IPA's that are very tropical fruity in flavor. They tend to be too sweet for my taste buds.

This. They already do the IPA pack in the spring and have 2 year round IPAs, no need for another hoppy beer.

Beer Camp is something Sierra does every year where people pay to come and design a beer and brew it. The best of the bunch gets released. Beer Camp Across America is what they did last year with other breweries. This is not a collab.

Interested to see just how tropical this guy is. I dig the ABV range, though. Seems like a lot of these juice bombs tilt a touch higher on the ABV scale. Those ones go to my head a little too quickly after a long day of work:slight_smile:

As one who has been to Beer Camp, I know for certain Sierra Nevada won't allow a lacto fermentation to take place in their facility. Rule number one was no brett no lacto.

So Berliner and gose are out, unless they add lactic acid directly to the wort to sour it. Even that was something they wouldn't really consider. And forget about kettle souring. Not a chance.

They have a hot ginger microbiologist girl whose job is to seek and destroy all brett and lax colonies at the brewery.

So did they brew Brux at Russian River or did they have a bad experience with it at their facility and that's the reason for no more Brett?

"tropical" is certainly the IPA buzz word of 2014-2015. No shortage of breweries using this term. It's starting to irk me for some reason, and its likely not a good reason

Brux was brewed there but it was not fermented with Brett. Each bottle was dosed with -1 mL of a Brett slurry during bottling. They proceeded to bleach bomb the room that the bottling was done in and then all the equipment used for individually dosing bottles was removed from the property and sold. It is unlikely they will ever allow this to happen again according to our guide at Beer Camp.
