Good point. In case anybody here has the wrong idea based on the terminology, these beers aren't "wet hop" beers.

Between this, the Snow Pack, and Celebration, I'm going to be spending more on Sierra Nevada this Fall than ever before. Very happy with the decisions being made over there.

I will definitely pick up a few 12 packs along with Winter Pack, Celebration, and Narwhal for my fall/winter drinking pleasures.

Thanks for pointing that out. I know better, but in my excitement, forgot. I'll probably still pick up a 12 pack because Celebration is awesome, and I expect no less from these beers. If you hadn't stopped me, I might have bought two!

Would it a be a logistical nightmare to offer variety packs such as these in both a 4-pack and 12-pack format?

With today's craft beer drinker always wanting something new and wanting variety, I imagine a mixed 4-pack would sell better than a mixed 12.

You also may gain extra sales from people who won't pull the trigger on a mix 12-pack of all new beers, but might try the 4-pack. And if they like it, they then snag a 12-pack.

Strata hops? That's the name for what was x-331 from Indie Hops right? If so that Luke be real promising. Loved that Hop when I got a small amount of it this year. Citrus and "wafting joint"

Will this be priced in line with regular seasonal variety packs? Or higher like the Beer Camp collaboration 12-packs?

  18. BillManley

BillManley Pundit (803) Jul 2, 2008 North Carolina

It will be priced higher than seasonal 12's but not as high as the Beer Camp Across the World packs.

  19. BillManley

BillManley Pundit (803) Jul 2, 2008 North Carolina

Frankly yes. The problem is, the packs wouldn't have a home. Possibly in independent stores, but not likely in larger box retailers. Buyers when given the choice between two skews of the same variety, will often ask: "OK, which do you want me to carry?" but will rarely carry both.

It can be done, surely, but the reward is not nearly worth the effort.

BillManley Pundit (803) Jul 2, 2008 North Carolina

Yes, Strata is formerly x-331. We're pretty enamored with this hop right now. Lemony and dank is the way I would describe it, but I like your "wafting joint" analogy. Pretty apt.

Damn, I'm so excited for this, and normally I don't care at all about new releases. It's a shame it won't hit until October though, I could have taken some to Germany with me to give away to beer guys.

Beer guys as in German beer drinkers? It would have been interesting to see what they thought of hoppy beers featuring American aroma hops. Needless to say but there are plenty of other American hoppy beers you could bring for this 'experiment'.

    Cheers!

Yes, there are plenty of other beers, and I plan on bringing quite a bit, but I thought these fresh hop beers would be interesting. I'm thinking of some NE IPA as well but I'm not sure how those will go over. The only thing I wont be bringing for sure is Stone! Kidding, I'm not going to Berlin.

I can't imagine Germans would be interested in a NEIPA - they already have fruit juice added to beer in the summer.

Pencil me in for pack of this. I usually enjoy the flipside red and tumbler this time of year, but being on a hop kick lately, i think this will serve my purposes. Plus I love how SN does hops.

The first beers of the fall hop harvest are my favorite regardless of fresh/wet/harvest designations. A wet pale is my absolute favorite if pressed. I am also trending back to hoppy beers that are crisply bitter and less sweet. Haze not needed.

Bring 'em on Sierra Nevada. A bucket of fresh hop beers beside a bucket of fest beers.....

    .....football game anyone??

Well that's disappointing. Not that Celebration isn't awesome, but I buy plenty of that as it is. I was really looking forward to 4 new beers and especially the IPL. At least the price point is legit.

I agree in that I would be buying a ton of Celebration anyway. I also would rather have the IPL instead of a session IPA unless they actually made a drinkable session IPA.

Celebration is good, but I probably wouldn't have gotten any this year if it didn't come in this pack. That's the upside. Bittersweet, though, as I was most looking forward to the IPL. I'd have rather seen any of the other three beers replaced with Celebration, especially the DIPA or Session.

Oh well. You can't please everyone, I guess. Will still be buying this.

But what about Celebration in all its aluminum glory?!? I'll be picking up this pack. Wonder if this change will delay the pack's release (i.e., all the outside packaging needs to be redone?). Hopefully not. Maybe SNB has some details on the change.
