I'm loving every minute of this California love! Is this a under rated beer or is it just me?

I thought it was decent but nothing that blew me away. I can get Founders Double Trouble, Central Waters Illumination and that for the same price and I would probably choose the other two. But that being said it was a bit boozy when I had had about a week and a half after bottling so maybe if I had one with the same date it would have cooled down a bit.

I thought it was a very solid beer as well.

This blows Double Trouble and Double Crooked Tree out of the water. Love what SN does with this DIPA.

Wow, I love both Double Trouble and Double Crooked Tree so I can't wait till my area gets Hoptimum in. Going through my bottle collection I apparently tried Hoptimum before but I do not recall so I need a refresher.

I haven't had any of the Crooked Tree stuff, but I have had Double Trouble, and I think I almost prefer the Hoptimum. Double Trouble is intense and has a cool taste and flavor, but it absolutely destroys your pallete. While Hoptimum doesn't have that knock your socks off flavor of Double Trouble, you're still able to drink something different after having one. And I think that makes up for the flavor profile. And Hoptimum, I find, is definitely super drinkable.

I do need to check out the Ruthless Rye though. I keep skipping over it for some reason.

Maybe it was just me but I wasn't the biggest fan of Hoptimum. For that price, I'd just buy Dogfishhead 90 MIN.. It's not a bad DIPA and I'll drink it but I'll probably avoid buying it along with Double Trouble. They just aren't my style of DIPA.

I wasn't really crazy about it. It was too hot and the booze really diminished the flavors..

really, no noticeable booze in mine... bottled march 15th. all pine hops... almost too much really... an assault on my palate. I like it.

With the amount of Simcoe they put into this beer it's going to be a Pine overload. The proprietary hop they use is also piney with some spice characteristics and just adds to the resinous profile. It's a wonderful beer but maybe not so wonderfully balanced. But isn't that what a DIPA is all about?

I'm like a couple others I thought it was a good DIPA, but Double Trouble is just as good IMO. And with our ease of getting Double Trouble, I'll stick to that for my DIPA needs... Also, if I get it from Founders taproom, DT is actually cheaper.

The one bottle I had last year blew me away. So abrasively hoppy.

I had it on draft in San Diego a couple weeks ago and it was meh. Seemed really sweet. The Alpine Duet I had right afterward was more to my liking.
DIPAs generally come across as too sweet to me.

I'm hoping to find 4-pack here because I love SN IPAs. Went looking for some two days ago but no luck.

Sierra Nevada will be pouring at a beer fest I'm attending tomorrow but I would be absolutely shocked if Hoptimum was on the menu.

This may be blasphemy around here, but to me, Hoptimum is everything that I expected Lagunitas Sucks to be after the way that Sucks was hyped through the roof. I loved Hoptimum last year, and I loved it just the same this year. Hoptimum doesn't get nearly enough love, especially considering the love that Sucks got. The resinous, syrupy mouthfeel of Hoptimum really puts into the next level. Sucks, while delicious in its own right, was thin and severely lacking in mouthfeel, to me.

I put it on par with my second tier of DIPA's along with The Liberator, Double Trouble, Devil Dancer, Maharaja, Double Crooked Tree, and 90 Minute, and just shy of the excellence of Hopslam and Heady Topper (haven't had the Plinys).

I smell a DIPA taste test in my near future. Need to have these all back to back. With the exception of Hopslam. That beer blew.

Hey do you cats know if Hoptimum is anywhere in Chicago? I've been trying to keep my eye out, but I haven't seen any. Went to Binny's yesterday and got some sixpoint resin, but no Hoptimum.
