I think that's a big part of the problem, with Summerfest as an example -- it wasn't selling so distributors stopped ordering it. Easy to make decisions based on demand.

That is the predictable nature of being informed. Beer at the ready is requisite....

I put this on tap at home and loved it, it always went fast. Have the tap handle and ready to do it again, send it to CT.

    Hey Steve

I was going to order the SN Bock a while back when that was available online, but the shipping cost was more than the beer! Beer is heavy and not cheap to ship.....also, you likely already know this, but the profit margins are not huge on craft beer to begin with....SN selling this 4 pk directly to consumers at the "retail price" of 4 / $12.99 gives then the added profit margin that would otherwise be going to the distributor - but apparently not at a price point that would allow for "free" shipping....I used to be shocked at how little $$ there was when I was selling beer locally - acting as a "self distro" for a local brewery, etc.....it's all about volume, not big markups.
Do breweries "mark up" the shipping prices to make more $$ - that I am sure of.....

For what it’s worth, orders of $75 were free shipping when I was buying the Bock, I just added the 12 pack of mixed vintage Bigfoot.

I added stuff to get up to $75 to get the free shipping last time (and have the t-shirt to prove it). I will not do that for every special release.

That might be a *little* better, but a package of $75 in beer at my front step would probably rattle my wife's resolve just a little bit. :grimacing:

And yeah, purchases add up to as much over time, but that's over time!. And probably more beer, the way I seek out the sales.

    Perhaps if they rename it.

    Well that’s a pissah.

Sorry, I spent the week in Boston, and it’s translating to my writing.

Including tax and shipping the price of 8 pint cans comes to $44.

Right, if all of this inaugural online purchasing settles down, and prices can stabilize, I'm all in!

This was the 3rd ever keg I had tap in my kegerator. I miss this......and Tumbler. Both were heavy purchases when they were available.

Ha! I did similar. I see others did as well though it obviously isn't a sustainable pattern as @deanzaZZR mentioned. If their online offered more options (they are a major producer, I would argue), there might be repeat buyers.

However, I also wanted to say that while my Bigfoot vertical (which I will do in the Side-by-Side thread before too long) was "lost" by the shipping company, Sierra Nevada's customer service was on the ball and replaced it very quickly. Felt like giving them some kudos publicly

Why not charge $44 and say free shipping?

It’s sold out for shipping online already.

If they sold their Stout and Porter I’d definitely buy them as I can’t even begin to remember the last time I saw either anywhere in my state.

Maybe in the future brewers can do a sort of buying club model. There could.be a truck dispatched monthly to a distribution warehouse and you could put your orders in online and pay before a certain date. Then everyone goes and picks up at the warehouse. Could allow for super targeted distribution, take advantage of the efficiency of full truck shipping, and keep the distributors cut in for specialty stuff without having to make their own gamble on how much to buy.

I personally would order a six pack of stout and Porter monthly, and then gladly.throw in a 4/6 pack of special releases like this when they interested me. My area might not be big enough to support something like this but I'd imagine that lots of larger markets could support it. Especially if they just filled out the truck with regular distribution beers

Saving me $44. :sunglasses: I got the impression The Bock lasted a few days before selling out.
