Didn't see a thread about it this year, anyone going? I'm now living within spitting distance and figure I should check it out. What time do the races start?

Also, I'm not sure how I could possibly withhold my support from a 3-legged goat.

I say I'm going to go to this every year and never do, but I don't have anything particular to do Sunday so maybe this is the year…

Last year things started to get crazy in terms of the crowd size. That won't keep me away, though. Maybe my favorite event of the year and I've been jonesing for Hefeweizen-Doppelbock since last year.

They did just debut a new tulip glass at the brew pub. Would be an interesting choice

Considering what they'll be pouring, I don't see why you'd want to!

Ditto. Used to be a fun event, but the crowd is getting way too large.

You the type of a guy who sneaks a hoagie into steakhouse, just to save a few bucks?

It's been on at the brewpub and tastin' room for a couple of weeks now, and as John mentioned above, it is amazing.

I say this is all honesty, it's a top ten beer for me. Maybe top 5.

Last year was my first (and sadly, only) year, so I can't compare it to years past. But the crowd size was not an issue for me. We arrived "late" - most of the food was already sold out - but we were still able to get up to the rope to watch the races. I had a good time, and wouldn't tell anybody to skip it. Especially if you've never been.

Stella is my favorite four-legged goat. She's a talker.

Yes, Spartacus won. I had a pour of the Spartacus Maibock from the cask (firkin) which was very, very tasty!

Cheers to Spartucus & Spartucus Maibock!

If you ask a bunch of us that were right there, Spartacus didn't win. We were right on the finish line and have video that the other larger goat won (forget the name but the handler had the green t-shirt on). Sly Fox had a camera stationed on the finish line and for some reason they didn't use the pictures, they made the decision without going to tape/pics (from what I saw). We have 3 people that have video that clearly shows Spartacus didn't win.......but no way they were going to change it.

Shame too, the handler of the real winning goat (in our opinion) was a great guy and when shown our video he didn't want to make a scene to argue it....said it was all in good fun. I'm not sure if I was that guy I would have said the same thing and just let it slide. Oh well we gave him a beer and moved on.

Still, another really fun time. The rain/showers let up just in time for the racing. Yes, the Hefe Dopplebock was terrific again as was the Keller Pils. Also that was the first time I actually had the removable lid canned Helles, it was really cool drinking them that way. Shouldn't that be something that other canning breweries use? Great idea.

    Keith,

My wife and I arrived around 1:30. We went into the bar to order some Keller Pils beers and it was a madhouse at that time. We waited for quite some time at the bar and to my surprise one of the bartenders was handing out free Maß of the Helles Bock. I figured what the hell and I took one. A very tasty beer and a free Maß that I filled up with yummy Keller Pils the rest of the day. I also got a chance to meet and speak to Jimmie Meiers (in charge of craft beer sales for Origlio Beverage); he is a great guy to talk to and I even shared my cask Maibock with him.

We watched the race on the big video screen and they did replay the finish of the finals several times; needless to say but it was a close finish. The judges of the race may not have utilized the video but they did show the replay of the finish several times for the viewing public.

I think the second place finisher (and likely genuine winner?) has a great attitude of “it was all in good fun.” I was rooting for Christian (who was racing with the goat Rocco Jr.). I know Christian from TJs Everyday and he is also a gentleman with a good attitude. He did not do too well in the semi-finals but he had a big smile on his face: “all in good fun”.

Between the German oompah band, German food (e.g., beerwurst), goat races and excellent beer, the Sly Fox Bock Fest/Goat Race is my absolute overall favorite local beer related event. It is almost as enjoyable as the annual Wurstfest that I attend in New Braunfels, TX.

    Cheers!

    Jack

P.S. I also got a chance to speak to Dr. Pete and his wife; they are GREAT people!!
