I love Porters. Three flavors I encounter over and over in the best Porters are:

    Coffee
    Chocolate
    Smoke

Smoke is the flavor that intrigues me most (I'm a non-smoker but I really enjoy BBQ and Islay Whiskys).

Eddy Fitz has some nice smokiness which makes me wonder: Which Porters are the 'smokiest'?

Have tried all the ones mentioned in this thread so far, and Capt. Lawrence is the best of them. CL also makes an Imperial Smoked Porter occasionally (keg only) that is better than almost any other Porter of any variety. Keep an eye out for that one too.

It doesn't really matter whether you smoke or not, if a beer had cigarette smoke flavour it would pretty disgusting.

I'm going to throw a nod to the Ranger Creek Mesquite Smoked Porter. (When it's on-point it's "like brisket in a bottle" although my most recent experience with it was hit-and-miss, unfortunately.)

Much less smokey than Stone Smoked Porter though. Still, it's an awesome beer. I would reach for it because I can enjoy more than one without feeling like I ate a pack of Marlboros. Stone Smoked Porter is amazing, but I'd never reach for a second pint after the first. Leaning Chimney on the other hand is one I would gladly have a few of.

Captain Lawrence Smoked Porter was horrible. It sucked every bit of decency out of my mouth. I was left with shit breath and a bad beer mood. I think I dumped some of it too.

Stone is my main man in this department.

King Titus from Maine Beer Co is the smokiest I've had, but I can't recommend it. It wasn't a robust smoke, it was more like three-day-old ashtray smoke.

Anyone that loves "smoke" should try the Capt.'s Imperial Smoked Porter.Delicious.

"The" best I have yet to try.

On another note,I am looking 4ward to trying Grey Sail's new offering.

    Cheers

I like a little bit of smoke, but the CL Smoked Porter was a bit much for my palate. Does anyone know whether the smoke mellows with age?

Of those mentioned, I'll say that Yazoo Sue, The Bruery's Smoking Wood and Left Hand's Smokejumper are about the smokiest porters I've had.

Don't limit yourselves to porters when looking for smoke, though!
