Pretty funny this popped up. I just opened my growler fill of Smuttynose IPA. Never have had it before, but I see it regularly at my local shop.

Pretty decent IPA, no frills. Thought it smelled a tad skunky, but upon checking it out, seems that just the aroma, and it's fine. Pretty good beer though, but not something I'd personally seek out on a regular basis, IMO.

Exactly to each his own. I've had finest kind thought it was pretty good had it again and it wasn't very good (guess it must have been too old) What's too old for finest kind? 2 weeks? I've had heady after 2 months and still beat a lot of fresh ipas.

I love how you haven't had the beer in about a year, presumably because you weren't in/fell out of love with it. So what do you do? Buy TWELVE of it! And it's an IPA, to boot. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have had enough Heady where I am past the initial infatuation and any blinding hype that may have existed has worn off. I do not hesitate in saying it is a top tier DIPA which belongs with the Plinys, Hopslams and Abarasive of the world. I refuse to play the game and name one the best, they are all stellar and I'd be happy to drink any of them.

Back to the topic at hand. I do love me some Finest Kind. There are a few IPAs that can cut into my Two Hearted intake and Finest Kind may be one of them. Love the label too, I'd love to have a beer with Cy and Paul.

Actually, you're wrong. LOL. I spent better part of the year not drinking beer as often, and when I did, I wanted to try different styles.... Barleywines, RIP's, DIPA's, SBPA's, and Pilsners. There are some in the aforementioned styles that I liked quite a bit - Don de Dieu, Bigfoot, DFH 90, and a couple of German Pils. Next up, I want to try some locally brewed beers like Brooklyn, Sixpoint, and Cap'n Lawrence.

Haha Finest Kind and Big A are great, they have been my go to with Flower Power for quite some time. I had a Big A and a Finest Kind for one of the pairs for my Deuces are Wild BIF box, but I drank them, couldn't resist.

Yeah I just love IPAs in general. All regions are putting out some killer interpretations of the style.

Smutty IPA is straight awesome. Check dating and should be able to pick up fresh bottles of it quite often.

I've never been super impressed by it. I've had quite a few very fresh bottles and I love that its priced so well, but for me its just an above average IPA. I do love how bitter it is though.

Smutty is really a simply great IPA, no fuss, no stunning grapefruit, or mango etc. I'm not a home brewer but if i was this style would be my goal.

I think Heady topper is so over rated. Not bad but not great.
I'm with you on the Finest kind though.
    Very bitter and delicious.

Smutty Nose is one of the best IPA's out there. My mouth waters just thinking about it.

More like 2 months...it keeps very well for awhile if you have it refrigerated. Its my fridge staple and hopefully green flash can get their shit together since they've been saying they're coming in here for a couple months now and still none. Once it does west coast ipa will join it as a staple in my fridge.

    Finestkind....my #1 go to I.P.A. without a doubt.

If you ever get a chance to have this bad boy extra dry-hopped on cask you will probably fall over, lol. Unreal !

    That sounds fantastic..

Finestkind fans: What are your thoughts on Big A? Is it year-round? I see it around every now and then but always way out of date..

Maybe I'll have to try Smutty again. I didn't like it the first time I had it last year and haven't thought about it since. Heady is my favorite beer.

Smutty's Big A is friggin delicious fresh, though. Would never turn it down if offered to me. Still a top 5-10 IPA.

I'm a big fan of Finest Kind. Grapefruit bomb! But I agree with those who feel it must be fresh, and by fresh I'm talking less than 3 weeks to really get the full flavor of the beer. Fortunately I've found 12 packs that are less than 10 days old on multiple occassions.

Oh yeah, and the price of those 12 packs was around 13.99. Can't beat it.
