New label in the works, looks like will be released soon:

    http://www.beerpulse.com/beer/smuttynose-vunderbar-pilsner/

Hopefully this will be released in 12 oz bottles & 6/12 packs instead of bombers.

Though I still haven't forgiven Smuttynose for discontinuing Portsmouth Lager, they could win me back with this.

Someone on the "other" beer site posted they had on draft recently @ Amesbury Ale House, will need to check it out this week.

Well, given that the label in your link is for 12oz, I'm guessing your wish may come true. Also, a 5.1% abv bomber wouldn't really fit in anywhere in the Smutty product lines.

Good catch, didn't notice the 12oz on the label - though nowadays you can never assume breweries won't put even sessionable lagers in the cash-cow bomber format.

Smutty will really need to bring it with respect to quality/price to compete with SN Summerfest IMO.

Dunno if it's the exact same beer, but I tried this guy a year or two ago at a bar at some point. I remember it being nice, and it's good to see Smutty get back into the lager game. Is this their new summer beer, or a year round?

If I remember correctly it is part of their new rotating 4 packs. Big A will no longer be year round and they are going to have seasonal offerings instead. The Vunderbar Pilsner is the first of the new series and I believe that Noonan is planned for later this year. I think I heard something about some sort of stout too.

Interesting. I always kind of wondered why they never ended up bottling any of the short batch series. Looks like they're finally going for it. Here's to hoping for Brett & I...

Also, this is kind of great news on Big A, in a way. The area stores are littered with out of date Big A - making it seasonal kind of removes the ability to hide its out of date status. I hope they continue to do kegs year round though - it's been a staple at Yard House for a while and I almost always grab a glass of it on trips there.

    Awesome! I loved Noonan
I haven't bought Big A bottles since it went to 4-packs. I got it on tap once and it tasted old. Such a shame. Hopefully this means I'll be able to enjoy it again. I'd rather have fresh Big A once a year than old Big A all the time.

If this is 4 packs, it isn't THAT awesome of news, but I am glad Smutty is making a lager again. If it is tasty and cheap it will compete with Narragansett Summer/Cream Ale for fridge space this summer.

I have no beef at all with 4-packs so long as they are priced reasonably. In fact, I prefer them, but again, only if they are priced reasonably. $6-$7 for a 4-pack of pilsner is fine. If they try to get $10 for it, then yeah, that sucks.

When have you ever seen a $6-7 4-pack?

Agreed it's rare, but 4-packs are almost always high ABV beers. We're talking about a simple pilsner here. Brooklyn BCS went from an $11 6-pack down to an $8 4-pack, which wasn't too bad of a drop. It's not completely unreasonable to price this at $6-$7, and Smuttynose typically has good prices. We'll see I guess, but at $10 this will be the flop of a century, particularly with Noble Pils going year-round.

Brett & I is bottled. It's been available at the brewery for a little while, anyways. I just went down to Portsmouth last weekend and visited the brewery, and they had some available. From what I hear though, there isn't a ton left, so if that's something you are seeking out, you should definitely pick some up soon...

I'm also not too sad to see Big A go from year-round bottles to maybe seasonal status. It's a great beer fresh, and I'd like it to be available longer than just in the Big Beer series, but it was hard to find fresh. But I also totally agree that I hope they keep it year-round in kegs--it seems like it's been more consistently fresh when I've had it on tap.

I'm also especially excited for Noonan to be in bottles. That was a fantastic beer that I only had a chance to have a couple of times.

This is from Ale Street News,Feb-March 2012:

"Big A will no longer be avail . year round, but will rotate in 4pks. with spring's Vunderbar Pilsner and winter's Noonan Black I.P.A.......Big A is back for a long run from August through November."

On another note,I just attended a smutty meet and greet last thursday.I was chatting w/ the brewery rep. and was told that the 4pks. are going to the 3 biggest markets only. This bums me out big time as I have been itchin and scratchin to get a hold of some Noonan. To boot, the keg of Vunderbar at the event I was at was a bad one and wasn't able to be poured. Arrgghh!

    Cheers All......

Hmm. Do you know what those markets are? And how big of an area they cover? Are we looking at something like NYC, Boston/NH, and somewhere else? Or is it something completely different?

Picked up a 4 pack today in Acton, Ma. for $8. Nice refreshing pilsner - perfect for an 80 degree day like today.

Price fail for Smuttynose. I'll stick with SN Summerfest (12 pack for $13.99 a lot of places) & St Pauli Girl (same) for my lager mojo.

Sounds good, but I'm still really waiting for the release of Noonan ABA/Black IPA. Still the best version of the style that I've had a chance to try.
