    Drove by tonight and noticed no sign. Looks like a Super Buy Rite Banner hanging in place . Also their Facebook is gone. Anyone have info?

    Did all the Black Friday beers come with the deal?

    Stopped there yesterday and was sufficiently confused. Not sure when the change occurred, but everything inside looks identical (also, they have a nice selection of Carton in the fridge at the moment).

    Uh oh. Really like their selection and prices. Guys who worked there were really cool too. Hope it doesn't get screwed up by new ownership.

    "Joe Canal's" and "Buy Rite" (along with "Canal's" and a number of other supermarket-branded and other chains*) are franchises - it's how these liquor store chains get around NJ's limit of only two retail off-premise licenses per entity;
    - so when a store becomes one or switches from one to another it doesn't necessarily mean a change in ownership.

    Years ago the Shop Rite Liquors in East Brunswick at some point switched to "Buy Rite" with no noticeable change in management (no longer a member last I saw) and, more recently, a small (and lousy) indie liquor store suddenly became a "Joe Canal's" but nothing changed inside the store (well, a growler station was added and quickly abandoned). I'm sure everyone's seen such brand-switching.

    The old Shop Rite Liquor newspaper ads used to even note:

    * The major exception in NJ are the Wegman Liquor Stores which 'dba' as Wegman but are individually owned by members of the extended Wegman family - the receipts note the actual licensee, for instance in Manalapan they read "J.W.G. Fine Wine & Spirits", owned by Joan Wegman Goldberg, Danny Wegman's sister (but don't expect to find her stocking shelves there). A few other outfits use the "license in a family member name" dodge.
