I'm driving down to the DC area next weekend for a wedding. I'm staying at the Monaco in Old Town Alexandria and I'm looking for a great tap/bottle selection within a reasonable cab ride/public transit distance.

I know I need to check out The Church Key, but are there other bars I should keep on the radar?

I'm also looking for a decent store to pick up some bottles to bring home.

Any input is appreciated as I'm really looking forward to killing a few too many pints of Two Hearted and other deliciousness.

Places in DC/NOVA to get a good beer:
    -Meridian Pint (DC)
    -Rustico (NOVA)
    -Pizzeria Paradiso (DC & NOVA)
    -RFD (DC)
    and many others in DC.
    Bottle shops:
    -Connecticut Avenue Wine & Liquor
    -Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits
-Whole Foods (I recommend the one on P St.)

Have a great time, DC is a great city for beer, and the one thing I miss about living/working in the area is the phenomenal beer scene rivaled only by Philly within 500 miles. Enjoy!

I dont get into D.C. much, but I gotta throw down my vote for Whole Foods. Depending on which one it can be a pretty good bottle selection, and most of them have growlers and draft glasses available. It really doesnt take long to get used to drinking in a grocery store.

You have some good options right in Old Town Alexandria. As mentioned above you have Pizzeria Paradiso and Rustico, plus easy walking distance from the Monaco is Columbia Firehouse. Solid tap list. Same with Brabo with a Belgian twist. Also, take a short cab ride over to Rick's Wine and Gourmet for bottles. My go to shop for about 10 yrs and if you have time check out the tasting room at Port City Brewing Co.
