So I have a few Brooklyn Sorachi Ace beers at my local wegmans. I'm pretty sure they are from last year. I was wondering how long sasions usually hold up for. Hennepin has a 3 yr bottle date but how about other sasions. Thanks for your responses.

I've found Sorachi Ace to be cheaper at my local Wegman's. I haven't seen a date on their bottles (unless I'm mistaken). That being said, what's it going to hurt to buy one bottle and try it? Worst case scenario you're out $8.99 or so/bottle or you found a gem that evidently no one is buying. Don't be so $%#@ cheap and take a risk, you might be surprised what you discover.

Sorachi ace mellows nicely but it loses it's great hop kick with age...just like an IPA. I've had year old bottles and enjoyed them.

Saison has become a fairly broad term. In my experience some Saisons age better then others. Saisons are typically generously hopped, so that helps them age gracefully. High ABV beers are going to age better because the alcohol lends preservative qualities. And sour saisons seem to age very well. They will get dryer and tarter as time goes on.

I have noticed saisons with loads of spice additions and miscellaneous ingredients seem to age less well. Perhaps the bi-product of the spice additions make the beer more vulnerable to spoiling.

The above is under the assumption of reasonable cellaring temperatures, otherwise your better off drinking the beer soon.

soriqchi ia greqt but i prefer it a little but fresher. i dont like hopa but that strain ia unique and is what makes the beer unique. brooklyn does put bottle dates on their big bottpes its in the jullian code on the back. i think its last digit representing the year, first 3 are the dqy of the year. i will say though i had local 1 which isnt normally an aging type beer and a 2 year old bottle aged nicely. it mqy be bc it was bottle conditioned with champagne yeast.

sorry guys its phone typing. i dont use mobile view for my phones browser and so it doesnt "plqy nice" with the ba forums. i hqve to manually cbring up the typing keys and when i do it.blocks the typing screen. i then also cant go back and edit things. so as long as people get the jist of it then ill let it fly. also fat fingers on a touch keyboard isnt the easiest.

Just cracked a Saison de Pipaix from 2002 a couple weeks ago. Very tart and funky, plenty of carbonation. Some nasty black fluid between the cap and the cork, but other than that, stellar.

However, as mentioned above, Sorachi Ace is a saison that really highlights the hop profile, and likely not a great candidate for aging.
