A small group of guys are going to head up to madison from Eastern Iowa. We will be passing through Dubuque to visit Jubeck Brewing and then to Grumpy Troll on the way to New Glarus before spending the night in Madison.

    Question:

What are the best spots in Madison that we should make a point to visit. We will also need to eat and get a hotel.

    Cheers!

Yeah, K4 is worth stopping at for sure.

As for eating (and want a place with good taps), I'd say either Tipsy Cow, Craftsman, Dexter's, Roast, the Old Fashioned, or Brasserie V. If you want a great place to eat and don't care about the taplist, hit up Graze (expensive but worth it). You should go to Maduro as well; it's a cigar bar that has leather couches for seating and typically a great taplist, and you can ask for a cigar paring with your beer or Scotch (I know, smoking dulls your senses, but it's a cool experience).

If you want beer stores, Jenifer Street Market, Riley's Wines of the World (most imports by far), Woodman's West, and Steve's on University.

In New Glarus, eat at Glarner Stube. NG used to give out tickets for free beer at any place in town, so take the trip to the brewery before you eat.

    Have fun!

Awesome. We are going to stay at the Howard Johnson right next to K4. We will probably end the night there.

This man speaks the absolute truth. The Old Fashioned has excellent Bloody Mary's, if you're into that. AJ Bomber's has solid Bloodies as well. Karben4 is the best brewery in town. They have a coffee stout made without hops that gets all it's bittering from the coffee beans. Incredible. I'm not wild about Ale Asylum, but they get plenty of love. The Capital tap room on State Street is good too.

Ale Asylum definitely disappointed last time I was in town last year. I'm getting excited.

They didn't open until 4:00 p.m. we missed them going both ways. I was a little bummed, but I have friends in Dubuque so i'll get there sometime soon.

FYI, Karben4 was my favorite stop. I also really enjoyed the cigar bar that was suggested.

    Cheers
