I picked up a bottle in May and just opened it last night. Did not taste right at all. Had quite a funk to it. Had the Espresso back in May and it was great. Just curious if anyone else had this problem. I don't see a bottle date on it so not sure if there were multiple batches or what. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue with this beer.

Sent a tweet to Stone early today to ask but no response as of yet.

Is it common for non-barrel-aged beers to get infected? I haven't opened any of mine yet so can't comment.

Can't speak for it recently, but two months ago I had one and it was fine.
    The normal 2013, non-espresso one.

This. Had at least 3 of the regular and espresso, both were wonderful.

Ive had a bunch of bottles. Great as always. To say that all of 2013 was infected from one bottle is silly.

It may be your batch, a bubble in the disinfecting process, or a few other factors that lead to a small number of bottle infections randomly in the line. Ive seen a few other beers with scratches on the cap, suggesting it was improperly handled, or dropped during delivery and the seal popped. That could be your bottle's problem.

Had one last night and it was great. When you say it didn't taste right, can you be a little more specific? It might help identify a potential issue.

If you don't hear back from Stone in a few days, maybe call the rep for your area listed on the website. I've had some great responses from their reps when I've called with questions. They are always very nice and eager to help.

Agree w/ this second point, and I'll add that a public tweet might not have been OP's best first option. A private email might have been more appropriate. Stone has replied fairly promptly to my email inquiries in the past.

I've drank close to a case each of the 2013 IRS and Espresso IRS, haven't tasted funk or heard of any friends reporting funk.

Nothing here.. I generally get around half a case, and spread it out between my home and my place in NC during the summer. Cellar and save a few for a vertical, and drink the rest..

Espresso and regular are both drinking just fine.. Better in a year!

Can say I've never had a bad bottle from Stone. I'd venture their QC is top notch, so a bad bottle would surely be a rarity.

Maybe they accidentally put the coconut in the Imperial Russian Stout and not the R & R coconut ipa.

I carried mine around DarkLord Days for a solid 5 hours back in April before drinking it. Tasted perfectly fine. Could be due to drastic temperature changes in storing.

Had 2 of this years batch and both were spectacular. I am in the camp where I have never had an infected Stone bottle. I'm one of the few that didn't care for their regular IPA though...

I've had a few bottles, with the most recent being a couple of weeks ago. No problem with it whatsoever. Like others, I can't recall a time that I have ever had anything from Stone with issues.

I sometimes wonder if when someone doesn't like a beer that the majority of people enjoy they attribute the difference not in their taste but in the bottle...hence is beer X infected??? questions
