Heading up to Stowe this Saturday, leaving Boston area around 7AM. Much sadness that HF is not open on Sat. Planning on hitting Alchemist right @ 11, then going hiking. Looking for recommendations for retail places to buy other VT heavy hitters in Stowe, especially Foam. Please & Thank You.

I've never seen Foam anywhere except the brewery itself (except once in a random supermarket in Brooklyn), but for other VT breweries like Lawson's, Frost, Lost Nation, Upper Pass, etc Tomlinson's Beverage in Morrisville is usually the place we stop by in the area.

Check Stowe Beverage. They get Foam cans fairly regularly. I think the drops are on Wednesdays so depends what’s left by Saturday.

…and they’re about a 30 second car ride from The Alchemist. There’s not likely to be anything left by the weekend but no harm looking since you’re right there.

Assuming you’re passing through WRJ, the Crowley Pit at Big Fatty’s has been getting Foam drops although, again, by the weekend? But the tap list at Big Fatty’s has been awesome lately - 3 or 4 HF beers on tap - and, of course River Roost is right there.

But Foam is only another 45 minutes up 89 from Alchemist. I mean, you’ve gone this far, what’s another 45 minutes?

CBC Waterbury had a ton of Foam when I was there two weekends ago. Not sure if I had stumbled upon them having just received a drop, but it was enough to make me think they likely always have it these days.

Edelweiss Deli has a ton of beers including Foam and Foley brothers and also has great sandwiches - about 45 seconds from the alchemist

Pretty much what everybody said. I was able to get everything besides HF at stores, cafes and sandwich spots. That was in March though.

Also, at that time, out of 4 different foam IPAs, one of them was actually good. I've been more disappointed than not with them. I had similar experience 2 years ago at the brewery itself.

Last summer I saw Foam at a VT gas station. You won't have any trouble finding Foam.

Yeah no idea why people go nuts for their beer. It's overpriced and it all tastes the same (except for the beers above 8%, those taste the same but burn like hell).

Was in Stowe this past Friday. Was bummed the Alchemist is still strictly curb side. Stowe Public House/Bottle Shop had 2-3 Foam beers for take away - nice place to stop and have one while you browse. I'm still generally a fan of Foam - had a draft Built to Spill at the Black Back on Thurs and it was awesome. Agree w/all other suggestions -Waterbury CBC etc. Would add that the bothtle shop next to Big Fatty's and across from River Roost in WRJ has quite the VT beer assortment - including Foam etc - and River Roost is no joke. Cheers and have fun.

I don't know what to make of Foam. I've had some absolutely fantastic beer from them, but the beers I had on last two visits weren't really for me. I love their spot and I've had some absolute A's from them, but in my somewhat limited experience they don't have the consistency of the other VT heavy hitters, at least not recently.

I still absolutely love hazy IPAs, but at this point in the game there are two dominant flavors that I'm completely out on: overripe fruit salad, and over the top hoppiness that takes a month from canning to become anything more than muddled. Foam hasn't been immune from the former category for me.

Another check mark for River Roost. Everything i had from them so far was great. I would take their IPAs over foam.

Add me to the list of folks that really doesn’t get Foam. I’ve had a few decent beers there and the spot is super cool but I’d personally never go there again or really seek out their beer. Fiddlehead, Lawson’s, Zero Gravity are all readily available and seem to be more consistent and just plain more enjoyable.

I’d spend more time drinking HF on tap somewhere than trying to find Foam
Cans. Or just make the drive to Greensboro.

Personal opinion here is that Foam’s location and the fact that most (many?) of us first drank their beers on-site bumps them up in people’s minds a bit. Their location and space are amazing and some decent percentage of taste is the overall experience. I’ve brought home cans several times wondering why I didn’t love it as much out of the can as at the source.

Surprised no one has mentioned it: I think you can get HF bottles at the general store Willey's if you drive all the way up to Greensboro. And some dank cheese for cheap.

Thanks for all of the intel & suggestions. Will definitely check out Stowe Public House/Bottle Shop & CBC in Waterbury. Where is my best bet in the area for finding HF on tap?

In Stowe, The Bench and Doc Ponds. In Waterbury, Blackback Pub, The Reservoir, and Pro Pig has Edward pretty often. Definitely worth checking out Blackback for one of the better draft lists in the state.

I’m not a fan but Foam is very easy to find these days. Grab some Black Flannel cans if you see them.

Correct. Only a couple options when I was passing through last week, Arthur and Brother Soigné, matching Hill’s current shelf options. Also had the 2020 iteration of barrel-aged maple syrup and yes, the cheese selection is awesome and usually can find some steals.

Amazing smoked wings and quite scrumptious duck. Their beer menu is also fantastic.

The Cubano pizza from The Bench sent me into a deep dark spiral. All I wanted to do was eat that pizza all day, every day. I pushed away family and friends. I stopped taking care of myself. It's that good.

Update: I'm doing much better now.

I think Blackback is back to the hours posted on their website. Their hours definitely fluctuated during covid and I think they were closed for some renovations recently, but I'm pretty sure they're back to normal now.

Pro Pig hasn't had any guest taps for a while, so you're not likely to find any HF on tap there. There house beer is good and worth trying, however.

The Rez has HF on tap, although less reliably than Blackback as of late.

Blackback for sure for HF (and nachos). Res hasn’t had it much in my recent visits. Also recommend Three Penny in Montpelier, they had a bunch on the last time I was there in May.

I was there this past Sunday and they had multiple games on. They had the sound on for the Tampa/LA game when I was there, so I'd assume they'd have it on for the New England games too
