Rumor has it Summit will be brewing an Oyster Stout. I wonder if it will be better than Lift Bridge's oyster stout. IMO, that was a great stout.

That would be cool. I've only had a handfull of oyster stouts and most of them have been great. They seem to have some sort of undefinable character, kind of briny and smokey but subtle. Certainly not fishy, which many people are afraid of. They just have a certain mouthfeel and quality that I really enjoy. Lift Bridges was stellar. Flying Dog has one out right now called, ahem Pearl Necklace. It's good. How anyone ever hit on the idea of adding oysters to beer is beyond me, but I'm glad they did.

I really love Lift Bridge's Oyster Stout. If the Flying Dog is out on the market I will have to give it a try.

I heard they were close to starting up the first batch when they heard that there would be some type of slotting fee involved, they then backed out of it entirely.

That's just what I heard though.

Did Lifeofbrian tell you that? If so, I'd take that with a grain of salt.

I've yet to try an oyster stout I enjoy. Too briney on the finish for my tastes...

It's kinda like reading a Beer National Enquirer- always fun and exciting, but rarely true.

Im kinda the opposite. I have never had an oyster stout that i really liked, but I felt the oyster aspect didnt add anything to the beer. Ive tried the LB and Flying dog offerings- If it didnt say 'oyster' in the descripton, I would never know it was anything different from your normal stout.

This one had the most pronounced brine or saltiness on the finish.

    This isn't untrue.

We are making an Oyster Stout on our pilot brew system. We just added the pilot system back in January for R and D purposes. We brewed 10 cubed on the same system. Don't expect to see this beer in wide release.

Summit is stepping up the game a bit lately, very happy about that. Question is - will it be better than the oyster stout from FFF?

So fucking good. Had it yesterday. I am truly sad it is such a small batch, I could drink this year round.

Meritage Oysterfest. It was brewed for the event. I'd suspect Meritage will have it on tap for a little bit. Otherwise, maybe Summit will have it on at their newly opened taproom this Fri. Perhaps a few select accounts will get a keg, but it doesnt sound like they brewed much of it as it was produced on their 3bbl pilot system.
