Agreed. I’m not ordering 125 beers, but even if I did, for the amount of money being paid immediately at time of order, the box(es) should not go MIA until an investigation is started.
Perish the thought. My only two expensive vices are beer and travel. Some travel dollars have made their way into the beer budget these last 8 months for some reason.
My latest delivery was yesterday. The app still said “Driver Assigned,” but I had learned from the previous experience and was waiting to pounce on the door buzzer if it rang. Driver rang the buzzer, I buzzed him in, and then met him on the way to the elevator. Tried to give him a $10 tip and he said that it wasn’t necessary. I told him that I thought it was and he finally took the tip. Pretty good experience, you just have to know not to rely on the app.
The order was for 14 cans. Not sure what “white glove experience” is, but I’d like to have tracking with any shipping service I pay $15 for. That’s the bare minimum I expect for any shipping I pay for that’s not media mail. That said, I get it. They are trying to survive in a weird market. My shipping experience this week was much better not that I know what to expect.
I've ordered from them four times since 2016. The first three got here (NYC) fine. The most recent was supposed to arrive around Oct.23. I'm patient, waited about 10 days more, then asked the local shipper if they had any information and was told they'd never received it. Tavour agreed it was a lost cause and refunded my money. About a week after THAT, the local shipper's tracker announced "driver assigned," which it's shown ever since. That said, my main complaint is that Tavour offers me 2-3 styles almost exclusively, styles I don't like and (with one exception) haven't bought.
Ditto. We take a small amount out of our checks each week that goes into our travel fund. We're going somewhere reaaally nice once this nonsense is over.
Pretty excited about the massive bundle as well. My current box is delayed due to the Covid. One of the employees got it and they’ve shut down for cleaning and testing.
My crate was supposed to close today, but now looks like it's been pushed back a week. I specifically moved it up last week to make sure it was ahead or at least on the early side of the holiday shipping frenzy. Also all the messages on the holiday bundles suggested they would ship asap. So much for that.
Just found this Tavour email in my Spam folder: We are reaching out with an update on your shipment that was supposed to ship this week. We unfortunately had an employee at Tavour test positive for Covid. With an abundance of caution, we are not only re-sanitizing all of our spaces but also getting everyone on the team tested for safety. Given testing delays it's taking a few days longer than anticipated to start shipping again and we had to move your shipping date. We are looking to work through the holiday weekend to catch up and send your beer to you as soon as possible. Your new shipping date is reflected in your app on the open crate page.
And vintages likely past their prime. Did a 6 year vertical a couple years back. Everybody agreed the ones with more than 3 years on them were falling off. I've had much better luck with age on the Black Butte XX... series. Oldest so far was an eight year old XX that still tasted great.
Interesting, I've had exactly the opposite experience, though admittedly I've stopped cellaring both in the last 3-4 years. Abyss (other than the 2013) seems to improve 1-2 years out then hold for up to 10, while Black Butte seems to fall off within two years or so (though you are correct, BBXX & XXI held up wonderfully). Different palates different results!
I uploaded the app again, mostly for personal amusement. I thought they might just bring out some really good stuff this time of year. I might have pursued a single bottle of spice wars, but that whole bundle was fairly outrageous. The abyss bundle was completely outrageous. My cart is still empty.
I was expecting some big Black Friday release on there too. I spent plenty of money yesterday, so I'm good with it.
Hey @SFACRKnight looks like Westbound's Blended Imperial Stout just popped up on my feed. I almost pulled the trigger on it, but did some research first. Only 30% barrel aged, saw people buying it at Argonaut (so it saw distro), and it's $14 per 16 oz can. Have you had it, and is it worth it? I'm swimming in BA beer distro heaven right now (Benthic, Rev stouts and BWs, BCBS, local release incoming, etc.). Hard to justify right now...
Haven't had it. Westbound and down right? I have had their beers and they are solid. I would hold out for something like a niche variant or starriest night. The only beers I get from out of co are fremont. Our local options are as good as anything else... hope that helps
I haven't seen wording referencing a previous purchase before. The algorithm is getting smarter and it's working for them. Tavour is now an authorized user on my credit card.
During there delay shipment because of Covid just before Thanksgiving, some confusion seems to have happen on their part. Out of nowhere my beer showed up last week, but the app and an email shows that another crate is showing up for me this week. Maybe I am getting a second box of beer.
