After a few years away I made it back to the GABF, and more importantly I explored some of the new places that opened in recent years. The latter was spectacular and you BA's living in Colorado have an amazing beer scene. It's not just the owners of these places and their employees - it's that you guys sustain them with your support and encourage more good ones to open. So many of the places I visited go beyond a great taplist and have excellent food, service, atmosphere, etc. This is the way it should be, and let's just say that some cities & states are very far behind. Euclid Hall, Crooked Stave, Cheeky, and FreshCraft were among my favorites. But the most cherished memories are from Prost Brewing. The Dunkel was amazing, and the Hefe-Weizen was among the best I've had in many years from American brewers. And they serve them in proper glassware at reasonable prices. Cheers to Denver BA's and the amazing beer scene in Denver! A nod to Prost & more: Look at this meringue-like creamy head!: Very interesting stuff being done here:
I've definitely been happy here - especially over the last few years. We pretty much have all of the bases covered, and more and more I find myself drinking Colorado brewed beers 90+% of the time. Even at GABF, when I specifically wanted to try stuff we couldn't get, I couldn't help but keep dropping by our own local booths. We've got something special going on right now. Just look no further than what Jason and Todd did while they were here...and they only stopped at about 1/2 of the major locations, too.
Yeah, you guys truly do have something special in your area. We hit a bunch of the breweries in Denver, Boulder, Loveland, Longmont, and Ft. Collins....oops, I forgot Wild Mountain in Nederland too. Next Year, maybe a trip to Cheyenne or Colorado Springs. Note to any people reading this who want to go next year...AVOID the La Qunita Hotel past the ballpark....total shit hole.
I think we might take our scene for granted now and then. Its refreshing to see you "fest'ers" come in and remind us how good we have it here. To the OP, glad you enjoyed Crooked Stave and Prost! Two of my absolute favorites
I was and have been amazed with Prost! Solid line up for how small, awesome atmosphere, good food and fun place. I can drink the Dunkel til I'm sick in the face.
Well lets not forget, Bill was a H U G E part of Dry Dock being what it is today, he had a good head start on making good beer. I dig he is finally up and doing exactly what he wants, though.
