it’s become an annual tradition to have our first Great Lakes Christmas Ales of the season on Thanksgiving. I happen to work a block from the brewery so the other annual tradition is I cut out of work early on Wednesday to get my growlers filled and sample a pint or two to be sure it’s suitable to bring home to the family!

This is the first time in 4 years I won’t be headed to TH before thanksgiving. Will try next year to get the time.

Reading this thread has further cemented the fact that I’m a complete lightweight with beer. Not sure what my genetic makeup has in it to cause this. I can drink liquor all day (night?) and feel nice. Give me one double IPA and I probably would not be able to drive legally. So weird

I picked up some French Toast Bastard at the grocery store this evening. Now I can have brunch before the OSU-Michigan game on Saturday (my next day off :slight_frown:).

During the day I"ll be drinking wine since the hosts aren't really beer drinkers. I have a couple of bottles of a good Gewurztraminer that I plan on bringing. Later in the day it will be back to my usual culprits like Celebration Ale. Happy Thanksgiving all.

Sadly, @HoppingMadMonk and I are in the same boat. Of the group, maybe three or four people have one, responsibly-poured glass of wine. I was met pretty early with the, "Are you sure you can drive..." line of questioning a long time ago as I opened a third, like, Jack's Abby House Lager or something equally light. Just totally not even worth it to bring anything over.

I have some Celebration Ale and some Sacred Profane Dark Lager in the fridge. I'll do that under the heat lamps upon returning home.

I'm planning on having some Anchor Our Special Holiday Ale along with some Edmund Fitzgerald Porters and perhaps a Celebration for good measure.

To answer the previous question whether Christmas ales were suitable for consumption during Thanksgiving -I'd say absolutely!!!

Limited beer options, but I have Celebration I just bought yesterday (tasting very good this year), some Cushwa Kentucky Common cans and also I have a 750ml of HF Dorothy Saison I’ve been holding since summer, which I think would be perfect to start on before and with dinner. I’m probably going to sip on a bourbon after dinner, beer and carbonation just doesn’t cut it post- meal for me.

    With dinner: SN Celebration
Post dinner/pie: Drink some coffee to reset the palate
Post coffee: Maybe a Sam Adams Old Feziwig. Something festive.
To end the night: Will pull a stout out. Revolution 2021 Vanilla Deth, Founders Mackinac, or possibly something super dense and rich like Boulevard Proper Pour.

I always like seeing what people pair with their feast.

I've dialed my consumption of sours WAY back from where it used to be, but Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday for fruit beers IMO. My lineup so far...

    750ml Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen - Oude Kriek

2021 Logsdon Peche n Brett (big bottle)

2022 Coconut Cacao BA Darkstar as a nightcap.

heading out to Bend tomorrow morning so I'll probably grab some winter beers and IPAs while im out there.

Mad Fritz Farmers Ale - Peach Project 20% malted wheat and 80% malted barley from Colorado Malting Co and Sonoma County Cascade hops, then after a boil we stomped the peaches and preformed a thermal extraction on the macerated peaches. The resulting beer was fermented with our Belgian mixed culture and aged in neutral French oak 1 month. The 7.8% ABV ale is bright and aromatic with peach fruit and notes of pith, hints of pine and citrus while the palate is dry and crisp yet notes of tannin and subtle bitterness offer a nice balance.

Mad Fritz Honey Ale - sourced from Napa Valley Bee Company. Rob Keller and his band of Bees we were lucky enough to get 50# of a dark pollen driven honey that when tasted alone has a abundance of cherry, prune and of course rich honey. Our grain bill for this beer is from the century farm Mecca Malt in Madras Oregon with a pinch of crystal/carmel malt, Hallertau hops and our Belgian mix culture yeast, then gracefully aged in neutral French Oak for 1.5 months for settling and a melding of flavors.

Might be changing my pre/during dinner choice. Sip of Sunshine or even something much lighter is starting to sound better than solo doming a 750 of 12% barrel aged bigfoot starting at noon.

Maybe split an Abraxas: coffee, after dinner

We do Thanksgiving with close friends where hours of beer and fellowship are a natural part of the day. So we typically cover a lot beer territory over the course of the afternoon and evening. Audibles may be called as we go, but this is my tentative plan for this year:

    - whistle wetting: a good hazie or two, (likely Parish Ghost in the Machine and/or something from Southern Grist, a local favorite
    - pre-dinner: New Glarus Belgian Red
    - with dinner: Boulevard Tank 7
    - after dinner treat: 2017 BCBS Coffee Stout

Not sure we’ll have room for food, but it should make for a great day!

Side Project Sakura Oud Bruin with dinner.
Maybe Alesmith bourbon barrel aged Vietnamese Coffee Speedway Stout to finish the day off.

    Happy Thanksgiving BAs!

Some lighter stuff will be on hand. I’ve got a four pack of “The future is unwritten” from Small Change brewing. It’s a 3.1% abv dark mild. I’ve also got a four pack of jacks abby post shift Pilsner (clocks in at 4.7%). Mayflower porter, one of my favorites will be on hand as well. And I’ll have some Sierra Nevada celebrations around too. And I still have a can of rauchbier from my last trip to Treehouse Brewing. Of course, I’ll have to have a scotch with my old man too, so not sure I’ll be able to drink everything listed above, ha.

This is one of my favorite threads of the year.

The lineup has changed a bit this year, but some combo of:

Throughout the day: Celebration and Vitus
The family will make old fashioneds at some point.
I'll go light on dessert to make room for a stout, either a Benthic variant or Revolution variant.

    Happy Turkey Day, all!

Going to start with the last Oktoberfests we have left.
    FW-Boulevard’s wheatwine in snack phase
Dinner will have NG Belgian red
Dessert with be the family’s choice of barleywines and/or BA stout, depending how full folks are…
But you know yours truly will save room! So at the very least I will have 3F lambic ready as the backup if everyone else is full

Thinking about pulling out some 3 Fonteinen.

For casual drinking, I have some Georgetown Bodhizafa, Two Beers' pilsner, and....*drum roll*....Hamm's.

    Drink pairing with turkey dinner?

Pair that shit with a nice old vine Zinfandel like an adult. Come on people!

JK, well not really I will pair thanksgiving dinner with a Zin, but a nice old ale or barleywine seems like a delectable fall holiday treat to kick off the day pre-dinner, and a big boozy Imperial Stout as a dessert beer and/or nightcap like a couple year old Bourbon County or a big BA Bruery beer like Black Tuesday is a great way to wrap up the day.

Personally we’re not hosting so I will limit the alcohol so probably no beers for me until I get home in the evening, which mean probably will only have one of those big stouts.

We host Christmas every year and that’s my beer (and generally all adult beverages) drinking holiday. In the past I’ve put together some extensive, well thought out, and IMO pretty impressive beer lineups but it’s generally been met in vain with a lot of polite “no thank yous” when I’m trying to do bottle shares. Not that the family doesn’t drink, they do, but it’s more of a bud light/captain for the guys and sweet wines or cocktails for the ladies. Oh well, but I’m gonna keep trying!

My family mostly drinks bourbon/whiskey/wine and light beer at our get togethers to. I have shared some craft IPAs/lagers but they didn't know what they were drinking pretty much which is fine no big deal.

Shared some barrel aged beers and brought over taster glasses recently and I could tell they enjoyed it. I got 2 2020 BCBS lined up for that get together. If it's a fail I get to drink more BCBS. Last weekend they were already telling me to bring on the barrel aged beers on thanksgiving so we shall see how it goes.

Hmm, good question. I might do an annual thing this year:

    2012 GI Pere Jacques
    2013 ? (Check that DFH Higher Math…)
    2014 Deschutes Mirror Mirror
    2015 HOTD Putin
    2016 Avery Tweak
    2017 BCBS
    2018 Fremont Rusty Nail
    2019 Anchorage Endless Endings
    2020 Founders BAIS
    2021 Smog City BBA OE

That should pretty much keep arguing to a minimum, or the fist fights to a maximum.

:joy: I'm drinking lighter beer at the party where I have to bite my tongue the most. My filter tends to deteriorate as the abv goes up. At the get together with the most alcohol consumption there are less arguments and fights tho surprisingly.
