Genesee or Keystone. Either way it sucked. I drank a lot of Molson Canadian in my teens. My first craft was a Duvel, I believe.

I don't remember since my friend swiped 2 cans from his dad when we were about 15. I do remember we needed a church key to open it. Doubtless it was one of the 5/6 beers that were being brewed in around NYC in the mid 60's. There is a good chance that the label or name still exist is not the beer. (Unless his dad was drinking Bud)

That was my first beer as well. They may have pulled it out of your market, but they were definitely making it until the mid-nineties. I had my first one in 1991 or so, and it was a staple at cheap high school parties for at least a couple years after that.

Glad to hear it hung around. Wonder how it would cellar?

The first beer I ever had was a home brew my uncle and grandfather made back in 1983. I guess it was good, they had to wrestle the glass away from me. I had sips of beer from my Granddad and his fire fighting buddies. The time I had my first beer all to myself I remember very well. My grandpa and I had been out on the tractor bailing hay at someone else's farm. It was so hot and I was so thirsty, but no one was home up at the house and we hadn't been able to find a water hose. The home owner did come home and was carrying a paper bag, it had a 6er of Budweiser. I was only 7 at the time, but my grandpa told me if I didn't tell my mom, I could have one. Man that was the best tasting thing I'd ever had in my life. A couple of years later I would taste Miller Genuine Draft after a hard long day bucking hay. It was sitting in a half melted cooler of ice, and I'm telling you... it brings back memories every time I have one.

Yep, it is still available here in Canada. We can get this is quarts in the highest quality dives in Quebec. It'll run you about $5/qt.

My uncle Butch (surprisingly not his real name) gave me a McEwen's Scotch Ale when I was about 11. I thought it was great, couldn't figure out what was wrong with beer when I started (illegally) drinking AALs about two years later.

Stroh's Bohemian Beer. Fire brewed in copper kettles at the big brewery on Gratiot in Detroit. The beer still exists, but the brewery doesn't.

Budweiser. That's what Dad drank; that's what was in the fridge to steal. And yeah, they still make it. Neither of us drink it anymore, tho.

Bud. It sucked. That was in 1965. That's why I used to drink
Portuguese Mateus( Sadaam Hussein's favorite wine) in high school.

    It still sucks.

Fortunately, Jimmy legalized home brewin' and here we are.

It was a Budweiser with my Grand Dad. I was probably 8 and he loved his beer, having given up whiskey. He said that I needed to learn what beer was. I remember them arriving by train early in the morning and JB Holt exclaiming, " Mary Lou, your long on milk and short on beer". A few years later a friend and I had a few of his Dad's Falstaffs. I haven't seen one of those in years.

First beer ever was Lowenbrau. Dad gave it to me while camping when I was 10 or 11. First craft beer was Strawberry Blonde by Petes wicked ale. I don't think Lowenbrau has distribution but it exists overseas. Petes wicked ale is no more.

Another one for Rolling Rock; sipped off of dad's as a wee one. First that I actually had and finished was either Bud Light or Coors Light

Pearl Beer...from the country of 1100 springs...made in San Antonio Tx LONG before Pabst took over the brewing of it. My grandfather would let me have a small jigger full everytime I would visit them. He was the distributor in a small Texas town way before the three tier system!

First beer I actually drank - Bud. I had a few sips of a neighbor's when I was like 5 or 6 and though it was disgusting (no clue what it was, something cheap). First beer I actually had and liked was Honey Brown, I was like 19 or so. So yeah, pretty sure they're all still made

It was a macro-brew most definitely

Stella Artois is still very much around as is Duvel which was my second beer. The production methods of Duvel were simplified some years ago but not sure as to at which point and whether I still tried the old version.

I think my first ever drink would have been Bass from a bottle I found in the larder when I was about 6. I got into trouble for it, not for the beer but because I had committed the unspeakably slovenly act of drinking from a bottle. And Bass is technically still brewed though unrecognisably different.
When I started proper drinking around 1960 the two local breweries which more or less dominated the scene were Home Ales and Shipstones. These disappeared some time ago but the Shipstones brewer set up his own brewery and now brews this ; still one of my all times favourite beers
    [IMG]
The Home beer is also being resurrected but I haven't tried it yet.
