Unsurprisingly, many of the most popular BeerAdvocate stories in 2017 focus on hops, while a nearly equal number of popular stories explored the meaning of “craft beer” as Big Beer continued its aggressive takeovers.

Some great beer writing this year. The Shelton Brothers piece was my favorite.

    My very favorite:
Feral Ones: The Unlikely Origins of Firestone Walker's Barrelworks--the story and writing were fantastic.

Shelton Bros was a close second.

    Thanks!

I think that list hits a hot button or two in most BA users and subscribers. There are more than one of those articles covering the "haze craze" and aggressive corporate takeover of craft beer. Both of these points hit home and seem to galvanize the craft beer scene. Thanks to the contributors and especially @Todd and @Jason for bringing these issues up and taking the flack that inevitably comes from one group or another for taking a stance on these points.

Thanks for sharing. You weren't the only one who enjoyed "Feral Ones." The authors of that article (Gail Ann Williams and Steve Shapiro) won second place in the Best National/International Reporting category at the annual North American Guild of Beer Writers Awards.

Agreed. Love the discussions that the articles start, as well.

Gail Ann is awesome. She's an amazing asset to not only the sour beer brewing community, but the craft beer community, at large.

Cannibus infusion is a real problem. All I have to do is fail one drug test and I will be fired. Unfortunately Stoners like to slip marijuana in on Non-users.
