Their poor, yet popular, picks for audio gear is just like all the other sites that are also into product click revenues. That alone keeps me from taking anything they publish as worthy, even though it would be near impossible to get commission revenue from beer.

 

This comic reminded me of the ridiculousness of beer lists. Replace "games" with "beer" and enjoy....

Were abouts in PA do you live?

In SEPA it has been the "years of the lager" for quite some time. Below is something I posted recently:

"In my area (Philly area) German style Pale Lagers (e.g., Helles, Pilsner) have been produced by local breweries for well over two decades (e.g., Stoudts, Sly Fox, Victory, Troegs...) and over the past few years by new small/local breweries (e.g., Root Down, Sterling Pig, Mainstay, Neshaminy Creek, Workhorse,...)."

We have it really, really good in this area as regards lagers.

Yes your right we do have great lagers around the area I was just thinking in pa alone we produce some of the best american pilsners(victory,troegs,slyfox,new trail etc) I haven't been to sterling pig yet but I'll get down there eventually. I'm about an hour and some change from Philly and I'm down that area almost every other weekend cause my sister is from the outskirts ..I also seen hidden river doing some foeder lagers that I really wanted to try!

Seems like a lot of local/regional breweries got some recognition on that list, which is nice. I saw only three that I can definitely buy in my area (Highland, SN and Stone). There were two more from breweries that distribute here (Allagash, Westbrook) but I've never seen the specific beers mentioned.

 

And today Tired Hands released version #8 of their Austere Modular series of beers:

The next iteration of our series of Pilsners Refined by Experimentation, Austere Modular Eight.

Austere Modular Eight is a Bohemian Pilsner composed of Bohemian Pilsner malt and a touch of Vienna malt, and hopped entirely with Czech Saaz. Fermented with our house Lager strain, and cold conditioned for six weeks prior to packaging. This one has a good bit more malt depth and textural complexity than our Pilsners tend to have, and it's really doing it for us right now! 4.7% ABV. Notes of honeyed lemons, jasmine, white grape, sun soaked grass, and Crémant du Jura.”

Can someone explain why so many Oxbow beers are so outrageously over-priced? Also, Highland beers are from just okay to mediocre and some are just plain bad. In my opinion, they are to NC what Palmetto Brewing is to SC.

 

For the same reason as Tree House, Trillium, Other Half, Tired Hands, etc. are: because they can?

Well . . . I cannot really comment since almost all of these are not around in my area.

 

I just learned magnums of B Bomb are a thing...

 

Nothing from Pennsylvania made the list. I actually drew an outline of the US and made a mark for each of the mentioned breweries. I was looking for an east coast bias, but the results are actually spread fairly evenly relative to population centers across the US.

 

Looks like an occasional Stone beer with some costal, craft one-hitter that nobody else has tried. Glad to see Odell's Rocky Mountain Standard IPA made the list. Sierra Nevada Celebration was easy fruit.
