I like 1.009 - 1.010 for a West Coast style and 1.012 - 1.013 for more of a balanced traditional American IPA. Tell me which style you are referring to and I'll vote accordingly.

I like them anywhere from .10 to .13 depending on what I'm doing and how big it is..

For the 6.5% ABV picked, I'm looking for something on the drier side myself.

Next question please. I'm ready to come up with a recipe and brew this. Would be fun.

1.010...and I might have considered lower. I aim for 1.009-1.011 for most of my IPA's, so I am surprised 1.010 is the lowest option here.

Edit: I see the BJCP style guideline now.

    Also went for dry, 1.010.

This parameter has me wondering, though, do we really control FG? Theoretically, I get it: fermentability of the wort through choice of malts and mash temps, choice of yeast and pitch rate, and fermentation conditions conspire to get us to FG. Presumably, these parameters will be chosen in polls? Will those choices be limited to lead us to a desired FG? I certainly don't have my system dialed in to predict FG; I don't know that I could make the right choices without extensive experimentation. Not sure this is something that should develop into a long side thread, though. I think Vikeman may prefer we stick to the polls

BTW, Vikeman, this is really a great forum idea! I hope to brew the final result.

dry for me @ 1.010, though I try to get lower if I can. But it also depends on my mood. There are times in the winter where I will mash one high like 156-57 and add some more crystal...similar to Celebration Ale. 90% of the time I like dry and no or very small amount of light crystal.

Not really. Not fully. But we can target it, based on things like...

You took the words right out of my mouth. More or less.

I'm not sure how much most of the choices (in general) will be limited...if they were, I'd be imposing my opinions on the recipe. An obvious exception was that once the group had selected 6.5% ABV, that limited (mathematically) the FG/OG pairings that could result in an FG within the style guidelines. Objective, and easy to limit those choices. I will attempt not to limit subjective things. I would hope that discussion within each poll would lead to votes for choices that would be most likely to result in the desired outcomes, and be consistent with previous decisions.

I could see one person preferring it that way. But, now there are three votes...guessing this is the "smartass" factor!!!

The dryer the better, so I voted 1.010. You will probably need some sugar to get there though.

^yeah, I also routinely get down to 1.010 from 1.060+ without sugar. Mash low and pitch big!

Not opposed to sugar, but I have never used it and generally get down there or lower. I assume you are using extracts, which is cool...but this statement isn't so general.

I'm a 1012-1014 fan for my American IPAs...usually use wyeast 1272 to get me there mash in the mid to upper-150s. Something around or in-between Topedo & Dale's pale ale are good examples of generally what I shoot for.
