Now we need to figure out how much C-40 (this poll) and Carapils (next poll) to use. Since C-40 adds flavor and body, and Carapils basically only adds body, we'll start with C-40 and based on that, the following poll will determine the carapils amount, which can be selected in the context of the body already contributed by the C-40. I would have liked to combine the polls, but there are not enough slots to cover the possible combinations. Straight plurality wins, unless I see an odd distribution that requires further analysis.

This poll be open for 48 hours.

Im gonna go on record that I absolutely hate using % for malt bills, I know others like them, but in generally I hate using percentages, too much is lost in the number

I'm curious why you feel this way. Percentages are a commonly accepted way of listing and scaling recipes.

By the way this thing is going, I feel like we're gonna end up with Stone IPA.

    Not necessarily a bad thing.

Stone IPA actually uses lighter crystal, but yeah, there was no doubt from the start of this thing that we were going to end up with a west coast IPA.

5% for me and I hope that zero is an option for the carapils

Was looking to keep total cara under 5%. Not going to happen.

I went with 5%. I just kegged an IPA that used a total of 9% crystal malt split evenly between c40 and carapils that had the same O.G. and F.G. that we are trying to hit.

Vote zero for the carapils, I think we need a write-in campaign

You got that right!...so fudge the # on the small side...2+2=5

realistically, if you like 5% crystal and you know you gotta use some carapils...don't go as high as 5% C-40

I was hoping for like 4% of each, but 5% of each wouldn't be the end of the world. Just mash lower.

You need about 11# of grain to get to 1.062 at 75% eff. That translates to 4.5% crystal

Wishful thinking on my part, I suppose. I voted for an ABV of 6.9% and had been working with that number in BeerSmith.

    Works for me. :grinning:

Since we're using C-40 and carapils, I voted for 4% (although 5 would work).

I don't care about scaling. I'm an engineering major, and I have beersmith II. If I can't handle the math with that, I need to change my major.
