So I have my order coming in of Black Tuesday Private Barrel. Here is the write up on it. I was wondering what this might be able to trade for. I’m looking for Brew 2000 and the latest BCBS barleywine. There are only 25 bottles of this and I get the last barrel they were aged in.

This unique blend of Black Tuesday started its life in a host of different barrels in our cellar. Brewed over two years ago, we have aged this batch of Black Tuesday in 11-year Henry McKenna, 8-year EH Taylor, 7-year Evan Williams, 6-year Weller, Peerless Rye, California Brandy, and Garrison Brothers barrels, and we even threw in a Sherry cask. We blended all these barrels together for optimal flavor balance and complexities, then double barreled exclusively into these 5 gallon barrels from Reservoir Distillery.

Any insight on this would be appreciated. I’ve been out of the trade game for a while and want to get back into it. Cheers

If there are only 25 bottles in existence don't sell yourself short....

I do not look at this as selling myself short. Its beer I want, mainly want it because my friends like barleywines and I am hosting a tasting for them.

If that's the case then I'd post that exact trade up. See what happens. BCBS barley will be plentiful but probably not a ton of brew 2k.

Agreed. I'm assuming that will be the sticking point in any prospective trade. That being said...

@noblepudding. Is there some particular reason for your strong interest in obtaining a bottle of B2K? Not that there's anything wrong with the beer, but at this point I'd have some concerns about ageability and storage environment. Various draft vintages/versions show up at special events here in the NW from time to time, so I was able to try the B2K roughly a year ago. It was definitely showing it's age I thought. Still pretty good, but not something I'd sell the house for.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

I scored a brew 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 and was just looking to complete the set. I personally do not like barleywine style beers, but a lot of my friends do. I was going to do a barleywine tasting between christmas and new years, so I was looking to get it for that. I have a bunch of anchorage barleywines that I am going to open at this as well. Just trying to give my friends a little gift of beer for the holidays. Thank you for your 2cents, I am always open to hearing what people have to say and getting their thoughts. Cheers John

I’m confused why there would only be 25 bottles of it. They filled - what, 8 barrels it looks like? Then it was (all?) double barreled in a craft distillery’s 5-gal barrels (WTF????). So - I’m just confused why there would only be 25 bottles. That’s not even a size that makes sense to put into case boxes.

They separated it to the final 5 gallon barrel which yielded only 25 bottles per 5 gallon barrel. They are sending me the final barrel that the 25 bottles were aged in along with the bottles. I am not sure how many total bottles were made, but in what I am offering, there were only 25 from my batch.

Aren’t all the 5gal barrels the same spirit? If so, each barrel is essentially the same. (Yes, I recognize that there are differences between barrels, but without some type of way to provide reviews for each, everyone has to assume that they are essentially the same.) That means that there will be more than just 25 bottles available.

For someone to treat this like there are only 25 bottles available would be a very niche preference. Your average trade partner - assuming they see this or are given full information - will not treat this like it is a 25-bottle count beer. Unless all other 5-gal barrels end up being adjuncted or a different spirit etc., this is the correct interpretation.

You seem to be taking this like I am trying to rip someone off, that is not my intent. I am not sure as to the whole process of the Private barrel Black Tuesday and apologize if I spoke out of turn or didn't speak clearly. They did not tell us if all of the same barrels were used in the final barrel aging process. I am getting the 5 gallon barrel that held my beer before it was bottled. the 5 gallon that I am getting was big enough to make 25 bottles.

Now it is my turn to apologize. I certainly didn’t mean to imply that, I am just trying to help with the value standpoint.

This is a pretty niche item.

Present all this in the Trade value thread and I am sure someone on there will have something to say. My gut is that this will have a value similar to something like BT Reserve.
    best of luck.

no need to apologize, I appreciate the feedback and comment. I have little information from them and just want to make sure I give the best possible information I can. I don’t think that my request was over the top for a Brew 2000 or 2 new BCBS barleywine. I’ll post and see what I can get, thanks again for your input. Cheers

I think you’ll have no problem getting the BW, it is just a right set of eyes type thing. At the same time, if you SHOULD be able to get 2, you don’t want to sell yourself short. That’s not fair to you.

the B2K is an interesting one because not many are left around. I suspect You’ll have a hard time landing that for that reason only since this is a reasonably obscure bottle.

    Goodluck.

I also grabbed one of the Black Tuesday Private Barrel 2022, and was at the pour/barrel pickup party. I found a handful of friends that wanted a couple of bottles each, and one home brewer friend is getting the barrel for the oatmeal imperial stout we brewed.

I would love to find someone willing to trade bottles of the 2021 private barrel releases.
