Hello all you Short's-lovin' BAs out there!

A week from now The Great Short's Brewing Tourney begins!

If you haven't been in the Short's Brewing thread recently, we've put together a list of 140 Short's limited releases, grocery chain exclusive, and variety pack brews that haven't been seen in years (and sometimes almost a decade!).

These brews have been divided into four divisions:
    IPA/PALE
    EURO/MALTY
    DARK/ROASTY/TOASTY
    FRUITY/SOUR/SPICY

Seeding was determined by BA score, with the top score in each division getting a first round bye. It will then take on the winner of the first round with the highest BA score.

Why do this, you say? Because, I answer. Because.

So get ready. Voting begins May 10th. Each round will have three days of voting before moving onto the next round.

Vote for the brew you'd like to see out back in bottles! Haven't had it before? Who cares! If you want to see it in distro, vote for it. Will Short's bottle it? I have no clue, I don't work there and this is for fun!

Put your drinkin' caps on and get ready for some crazy brew action!

I miss the amazing weirdos who love Short's almost as much as I miss their beer. I can't wait to vote for Autumn Ale!

    Okay, here come the brackets:
First up, EURO/MALTY. NOTE: The eighth seed should be Citra Local's, it's been fixed in the spread sheet.

Just a reminder, the Tourney begins this Sunday! Later in the evening (it is Mother's Day, after all) I'll post the link to vote for round one.

On Wednesday night, I'll download the results around 11 pm. I should be able to get the next round up on Friday evening, then Monday evening get results. So it'll be 3 days of voting with a day off in between rounds.

Also, just for clarification, with a first round bye and five match ups in the first round here is the planned path for each of the divisions that start with 11 beers instead of eight:

The numbers are just so I could follow my flow  But yes, there will be some hard ass choices to make and almost right away. The Tourney will be fun AND cut-throat!

Haha! Because nothing can happen without hiccups, I noticed both Michigantuan and Machu Beechu were listed twice, both in IPA and in FRUITY. Rich's Rye IPA and Rye Not were left off, so they took Machu and Michigantuan's place in the IPA/PALE region, ranked by BA rating.

Also, if no one has any objections, when we get to the Final Four, my thought was to have the winner of the IPA region take on the SOUR/SPICY/FRUITY region, and the EURO/MALTY region take on the DARK/ROASTY/TOASTY winner.

All done, hated choosing between Pandemonium and Chief Hopper, both are two of my favorites. Another stand out toughy was Kolsch 45 vs. Noble Chaos.

Well, that was a fun trip down memory lane! Quite a few on there I’d completely forgot about.

There were a couple slam dunk picks for me, like Bodacious and Cup a Joe, but the tightest matchup by far was Exeter vs. Key Lime. Love both!

Thanks for putting this together @Tripel_Threat

@Tripel_Threat what are your thoughts on this ... You are not required to vote in every round. If you are not familiar with either better or have no strong opinion, would it be better to abstain?

I'd say let your conscience be your guide. There's a few on the list I haven't had I'll vote for just cause they're something I've always wanted to try (ahem, Peaches). But if someone doesn't have a strong opinion either way, I'd say not voting is a good way to go. In the end, it's all for fun.

I got to have the Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Goodnight Bodacious and it made me want the original that much more. It's a shame Cascadian/Black IPAs aren't more popular. I remember the one year Bodacious and Car Ramrod were out at the same time years ago.

I'm really hoping this one hangs around until I can get up there or until they add my county for deliveries, if they do.

I remember that too! But I never did have Ramrod. Was looking to get the Rye Bodacious but didn’t know we could get delivery in Livonia. Thought Oakland county was the cutoff...

Got 'er done. I was concerned that I wouldn't remember so many of these beers, but I was able to have a preference on every match-up except one (Purest Form vs. My Good Boy which i skipped). On all of the match-ups other than the one I skipped, I was able to recall that one of the two was either very good (which got my vote) or was not so great (which gave the vote to the other beer by default, even if I couldn't remember it).

Question for everyone: how do we want to handle a tie? I think we should decide before voting closes just in case. Higher seed wins in a tie? Re-vote?
