The Half-Acre thread (2018)

Looks like some changes were made to the beer availability page on HA's website.

Navaja is now only available from Jan-June and Deep Space cans seem to be on the horizon with a listed availability of July-Dec. I for one will be very sad to say goodbye to Navaja. Also, tuna is listed as year round availability.

 

picked up two packs of the 2x daisy last night. that beer is so so so good.

better than i remembered it.

How much $$ are they selling DDC cans for at HA?

 

It was $15.99 per 4 pack

 

I was at the Half Acre taproom yesterday evening and they have Double Daisy Cutter as well as Topanga Gulch on tap.
......I kind of liked Topanga Gulch SLIGHTLY more actually......
is that sacrilege?

Picked up a 1/6 barrel of Navaja at binnys saturday for the kegerator. Believe it or not drinking about 10 pints of this, while very enjoyable at the time, will make for a miserable day after. Sad it isn't year round now, but deep space is a realll solid substitute during the summer.

Shit, summer was the time that I enjoyed Navaja the most! I like Deep Space fine, but barring a change in the recipe, I won't be purchasing that nearly as much as I would Navaja.

With that being said, IF Half Acre continues cranking out canned one-offs every few weeks, I won't complain. While I still prefer Navaja to the majority of those so far, I love trying their new stuff (and Topanga was a perfectly acceptable Navaja stand-in).

Besides, if they're serious about canning, I'll probably be drinking GDDC and BHA cans for a lot of the summer, anyway. I'll complain about Navaja when my stock runs out.

 

Does anyone really not believe that drinking 10 pints of this would make for a rough next day??!!! That's a lot of Navaja.

 

Honestly it was the pure excitement of having this on draft at home that made me do it...and while the hangover was basically crippling, I don't necessarily regret my actions. They go down fast when you are playing cards I guess lol

 

Deep Space screams winter seasonal release to me while Navaja is way more summer.

 

For me, one Navaja makes for an early bed time, two would make for a rough morning. 10 would kill me.

 

Well, I had 2 Spotted Puffers and 2 cans of Navaja, and I can say, without a doubt that . . .






the next day was dreadful. It didn't help that it was my 9 yo's birthday, and all he wanted to do is play Star Wars Battlefront on the PS4 with his old man. The motion sickness didn't help matters.

I had a four pack during one of the NFL playoff games and was very glad it was Martin Luther King Day the next day or I would not have made it to work...

 

What are the chances of DDC lasting at Binny's or The Open Bottle till Thursay?

 

Grand location had a shitload of it.

 

Is DDC in all/most Binny's already, or just a few? I would especially be interested in Oak Brook, Downers Grove or Elmwood Park.

Just grabbed a four pack from Binny's on Grand and there was a still a lot there. I'd say your chances are really good!

 

When I stopped by the brewery to pick up my DDC cans I got my growler filled with Gravel Ghost to counter all the hops I've had lately. It might be old news to all you who get to the taproom more than I do, but that is one excellent stout! Check it out if you can. Perfect balance of chocolate and tobacco character, sticky and sweet with just enough boozy taste to remind you to slow down and enjoy. It's been a long time since I had a non-BA stout this good!

 

Second this. It really caught me off guard how much I enjoyed this.

The week it came out they had a firkin with Abraxas style spices, so good. Between this, benthic, and salted espresso hugs, HA has been crushing some stouts lately.

 

I know others have said something similar, but I wanted to put some more positive vibes for the quality + quantity of DDC in cans. I hope this is what we can expect from a can release of BHA (multiple cases in multiple places, no hunting, etc...)

... I also hope they find a way to can the draft version from last summer rather than the bottle version.

100% agree. The draft version of BHA was possibly my favorite Chicago IPA last year. I think I had at least 3 growlers. Can't wait for the cans!

 

I heard one of the beer guys at Binny's mention to someone that DDC is going to be in the Beer Buzz email tomorrow and that's why they haven't put their stock out yet. So if you haven't seen it at your local Binny's yet, then check again tomorrow.

 

Picked up two 4 packs yesterday at Bolingbrook Binnys. No sign stating any limit that I could see, $15.99 as mentioned here. Maybe 20-25 4 packs on floor, not sure what's in back lol. Absolutely phenomonal beer.

 

That stack has been there since Tuesday at least.

 

Picked up a couple 4-packs at Binny's South Loop last night. Had around....15 cases, give or take.

 

Grabbed a DDC 4 pack at Woodman's in Rockford today for $13.99. Down side was it was 1 4 pack pere person. Enough for me to enjoy.
