I wonder if all places will be splitting up the KBS packs.

 

Oh - FYI, TW HB has had a few Project Pam sitting out on a barrel by the Tasting Room/classroom for a week. I think there were 5-6 there earlier tonight (and maybe some Cognac Abyss still on the shelf). Getit @whiskey

Wow, I was at Hi-Times at 4:00 yesterday and specifically asked if the had gotten this while at the register (Spending a good amount of money already). The 3 guys at the register all looked at each other, none of them spoke up at first, and one finally said that they haven't got any yet. The interaction felt weird, and I was suspicious that this might be the case. This is the third time they have been dishonest with me about having something in stock, so I will be respectfully taking my business elsewhere. I understand when a buisness holds things back for their most loyal customers, but I have heard from several people that these guys are just holding stuff back for their buddies.

 

This is the reason I rarely go to Hi-Times and it's my local shop. On the off chance the beer dudes do decide to be honest, they make sure you know how lucky you are to be graced with their tremendous generosity. No thanks.

That's why I try my hardest not to go to Hi-Times anymore. I tend to give @Mike100proof all my money instead. Dude is always upfront about what he has and is just a upstanding guy.

 

Agreed! I live in Costa Mesa and will go out of my way to pay them a visit.

 

Honestly I would put that on the guys there. I had a buddy go grab one a little before 5 and he was able to get one. He just moved to town so there is no way they think he is their buddy. I was there last week and asked if they got any founders stuff and the guy told me not till next month. A lot of people there who don't know about what's in the back.

 

That would be understandable, but I really don't think that this was the case. The guy that told me that they didn't have it yet is very informed as is a supervisor/manager from what I can tell. He has the beerfrontier Instagram handle that the hi-times Instagram is always reposting. He is very informed about their inventory, I have talked to him on several occasions.

A few months ago the customer checking out in front of me was buying a Thrill Seeker, which I didn't see shopping around. When I got to the front I asked if they had any more, and if I could grab one. The guy looked annoyed that I had even asked, and sent someone to the cooler. Maybe your buddy has similar "luck."

 

I'm also very leery of Hi-Times. They tried to charge me $85 for a bottle of Elmer T Lee

 

For those of you on this thread who were able to snag some FBS and KBS, would you mind informing me of when they were bottled?

 

Fair enough. That is strange. Sucks that happened. Weird my buddy who has been there twice got some. Not my favorite place but I didn't think service was that shitty

 

Don't expect to get a fair deal on anything hard to find on bourbon at HiTime. HiTime has a huge selection of great regular stuff at fair prices. The guys there will give you great advice too. But don't go hunting there. The only "deal" would be HiTime barrel select Four Roses Single Barrels (when they aren't temporarily marked up for Christmas, etc).

I think I've told my story before and yes, this stinks and articulates my feelings exactly. I was shocked the one time I got a Temptation out of the secondary cooler after I asked about "new releases", after like 50+ visits over the years I didn't even know beer existed back there! I've tried asking since, and I've felt like I've had to ask certain people, hope they're in a good mood, or ask someone else when that guy isn't looking. It's seriously degrading.

 

I was at hi times at 430 on Friday and the head beer guy specifically told me that they ordered cases so that hey would get kbs and that they hadn't gotten any. That sucks because they usually are pretty open I thought when they got the good stuff in the back.
