As budgets are stretched to the limit during the holiday season, I was wondering...is there really a good, cheap, readily available macro beer, like an adjunct lager, out there? Money is tight, but I'd like a sixer or even a 12-pack of something inexpensive, but isn't crap. Thanks.

The silence is deafening! I'd say the answer is a resounding "NO!" to your question.

Look at the prices of things like Sam Adams, Deschutes, Widmer, or Sierra Nevada. Chances are that one of the brands will be on sale for like $13. Thats about a dollar a beer...not much more than you would pay for any BMC. If anything try Henry Weinhards or Yuengling.

I know prices vary around the country, but I always find Bear Republic to be a great bang for the buck. Bombers & 6pks of Hop Rod Rye and Racer 5, two outstanding beers IMO,are significantly cheaper than almost anything else on the shelf around these parts.

It depends on how cheap you want to go. I don't know what you have available in Texas, but when I want to save some money I'll go with 12 packs of a Samuel Adams offering or Blue Moon. I can find 12 packs for $15.99, or about $1.33 per bottle. If I want go even cheaper, I'll buy the 1960s formula Schlitz. I saw a 12 pack recently for $10.99. Negra Modelo is also pretty good and is in 12 packs.

Not macro but I got a 12er of Celebration for 10.99. Can't beat that with a stick.

Whoa!- Better than what I was going to suggest, but I'll go ahead anyway- Shiner's Black Lager and Alt are pretty nifty representations of their styles, and bound to be budget-priced. We get them in in the mixed sixers, but if either is available by themselves that'd be a good buy.

We have lots lots of good cheap beer available without turning to BMC. I just bought a sixer of SN Celebration for $6.99. That's what, a dollar more than Bud?

Yeah, the way craft beer is going, I'm noticing less and less bargains out there. Check out Bohemia, $11.99 a 12 pk and it's a pretty damn good beer.

There is no good cheap adjunct lager. Go with something from Samuel Adams, Sierra Nevada, or New Belgium.

Try the distributors...always a rebate for some of the more well known imports. In PA, I've gotten cases of Becks, Warsteiner, and St. Pauli Girl for all under $20. It's not the best, but it beets most American macro's.

Sweetwater IPA. 8-9 bucks for a sixer and it tastes amazing.

Columbus Brewing Co IPA is a world class single IPA and only costs 7.99 for a six pack.

These threads always remind me about how expensive beer is here in Georgia. $10.99/12pk of Celebration and $3.85/6pk of Genny Cream Ale...retail? That's less than our wholesale cost here.
  31. shawnohall

    shawnohall Initiate (0) Nov 8, 2009 Texas

$10.99 for SN Celebration? Damn. I'd jump all over that. Cheapest I've seen in the Houston area is roughly $8 a six-pack.
  32. shawnohall

    shawnohall Initiate (0) Nov 8, 2009 Texas

Never seen it nearly that cheap in my neck of the woods. Being from upstate NY originally, I'd kill for Genny Cream for under $4 a sixer.
