So I am heading to Milwaukee from Chicago Saturday morning to drink and eat for the weekend. Where should I go? I am staying at the Aloft hotel downtown and have absolutely nothing planned for the weekend. Only been up there once and visited Lakefront brewery and some stupid spy bar. I would like to try something else new unless there is a release or something special happening. Any new breweries that are worth a visit? Currently looking for BA stouts and sours, but up for anything good.

Lol @ "some stupid spy bar"

Rumpus Room is walking distance...they rarely update their tap list on their website, but I've never been disappointed in multiple stops there. Otherwise just cab it to Bay View for Burnhearts/Sugar Maple, which are in somewhat walking distance of each other.

World of Beer and Stubby's are pretty close to downtown, but I'd also suggest Bay View for the best beer scene.
Rumpus Room has great food and always has good taps. Ask for their cellar beer list, which has lots of rarer stuff on it.
If you want a Bourbon County Rare, apparently Sanford has one for $200.

The Milwaukee Market has a couple decent bars inside that have good taps. You can also get a Maine Lobster dinner for $13. That's kind of a hidden MKE secret, so keep your damn mouth shut about it

If you want to get really shitfaced, go to the MKE Brewing tour. They basically hand you a pint glass and let you go to town for a few hours. I haven't been on the tour lately, but they just released a bunch of barrel aged stuff that clock in around 10%, so they might have some deadly stuff on tap. The Great Lakes Distillery is down the road from MKE Brewing and has a good tour. They rapid-fire you about 6 shots at the end, so it's an easy way to get a buzz started.

If you like Mexican food, Conejito's Place is the bomb. It's a dive, but the food is awesome and the margaritas are strong. You can get full and drunk for about $10-15 there.

Overall, a lot of bars keep a current BeerMenus, so browse around and you can craft up a pretty nice plan of attack.

Roman's Pub is my favorite place to hit a consistent World-Class beer menu. Problem is they open later on the weekends but if you can time it right and you are anywhere near that area, it's worth a stop. Last December, for example, I swung stopped in after a Bucks game and they just happened to have Cherry Rye and Bigfoot 2011 on draft. He shoots, he scores at Roman's!

Oh yeah, Romans is awesome. If you're lucky, a bachelor/bachelorette party will show up and the owner will chase them away with a golf club!

I agree with this list 100%. This person clearly knows Milwaukee very well. One thing I would add is to check out the old Pabst area down the road from Aloft. It's only a 10 minute walk and Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub is kind of a cool place.

When is the last time you fellas have been to Conejitos? Last I heard the have new kitchen management and the food is awful. I don't know this for fact as I haven't been there in a year. If you feel differently, I'd love to know so I can get over my fear of going back.

Well if you are looking for the "really new" there are a couple of fresh breweries to try.

There is Brenner Brewing right by Milwaukee Brewing, so easy stumbling distance after there if you have too much. Have a Bacon Porter on tap the last time I stopped in. That beer and Maple Surple by Lake Louie brewing are the two beers I could just sit and smell and I'd be happy.

There is District 14 Brewing in the same area. I don't know if they have had their grand opening yet but are open on Saturdays.

Have not even gone myself but Tornado Brew Pub has recently opened and by their facebook page seem to have a lot of interesting beer choices.

Wow, thanks for all the recommendations. Looks like I gotta figure out an itinerary. I know we are going to go to MKE brewing, just not sure if we want to do a tour, or just swing by during their open house from 5-7.

Another question, prolly gonna get some hate on this one. Where can I catch the Bears game at Noon on Sunday? Any Chicago expat bars in the area? or is it going to be Packers on every tv in town

I remember hearing that the owners of Comet Cafe were big Cubs fans, so that might be a good place to watch it. Might be worth calling beforehand to make sure they'll have it on. They have great food and it's right down the road from World of Beer, who might have that game on too.

Karma is a random Nebraska Husker's bar, so they might root for a non-WI NFL team as well.

Or as a last resort, Buffalo Wild Wings on Water St will be a neutral bar with all the games on at once.

Also, is there any NG Scream IIPA left anywhere up there? I am out of my stock I picked up at Woodman's a couple months ago. Wish I would have bought more.

A lot of the bars downtown have Sunday Ticket and will have the Bears game on... if not, ask and nobody will really have a problem switching one of the many TVs to it for you. 2 of the better sports bars that have decent food a delicious array of the best BMC beers you could ever dream of would be Flannery's and Catch 22... there are probably some on Water Street closer to Aloft as well where you won't have a problem catching the game. The Bay View bars are going to be your least likely places for Bears football viewing... I'm not sure that Sugarmaple, Palm, or Burnhearts even have TVs... Roman's has 2 and Mike does seem to s the d of Goose Island so he might be down to put the game up if he is open.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but I would also be available for an IP trade for some 3Floyds or Pipeworks brews if anyone has interest. I would say meet at MKE brewery. My Zombie Dust supplier gets their shipment in an hour...

For Scream- you'll find it around town, but probably only in bottles at this point. Batches 2034 and 2334. 2334 is the last batch of the year, about a month fresher than 2034. Actually saw the fresher batch at Sendik's, Discount is still working through their older batch 2034.

My personal recomendations based on where you are staying would be Rumpus Room, Uber Tap Room on Old World 3rd Street, and the Milwaukee Public Market. Bayview for Burnheart's/Sugar Maple/Palm Taver bar time. For food, you can't beat the Honeypie/Palomino/Comet Cafe group for value/taste. Decent beer selection. Also, Nessun Dorma and Cafe Corazon (my favorite Mexican in Milwaukee) are great.

Woodmans in Menomonee Falls has a ton of scream left with a Born on date of 2344 (end of August). Still tasting fantastic! I'm sure the Woodmans in Oak Creek or Kenosha have the same.

To add to the Bayview beer scene, Odd Duck always has a great beer list and they change it up a lot. I would say don't go to world of beers. You can find just as good if not better selection for cheaper prices and a better scene. The Nomad on Brady Street is a fun place especially later in the night- same restaurant group as Benelux so great beer list and usually more affordable. Sugar maple is a must if you've never been.

Cafe Centraal is literally right next door to sugar maple, part of the Benelux restaurant group and has awesome brunch too. Everything on their menu has a beer pairing with it which is pretty cool. They're heavy on the Belgian/import stuff though.

If you hit Woodmans in Kenosha stop by Uncle Mike's on the interstate, I'm sure they will have the Bears game on, they have 84 taps currently.

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions. Had a freaking blast this weekend. Definitely plenty of good beer to be had in MKE. Ended up hitting quite a few places. Had lunch at Comet Café Saturday, scored some good bottles at Downer Ave wine and spirits. Checked into the hotel and walked from the Aloft to MKE brewing company on Saturday for their 5 o clock open house. Along the way we stopped at Uber tap room and the Milwaukee Ale house (awesome curds) for some snacks and beer. While the MKE beer company's beer isn't the best in the world, they certainly give you as much as you can drink. Ate at La Merenda for dinner and had an outstanding meal. Afterwards we hit up Steny's for a beer, then onto Sugar Maple which has 120 min IPA on draft as well as a bunch of other goodies, but the highlight of the weekend was definitely Burnhearts. We stayed their till last call and had a blast. Awesome bartender, good music, and great beer selection. After such a hard day of drinking on Saturday, we took it easy yesterday and went to the market and walked around in the morning. Didn't end up watching the Bears horrible game and opted to try out the burgers at Oscar's...which were amazing and cheap as hell. Hit up Discount liquor on the way out of town and scored a ton of good stuff that isn't sold in the Chicago area....who knew that they Distro'd Toppling Goliath beer? One last stop at the Brat Stop and Woodman's before we got out of the state completely an epic 36 hours of drinking, eating, and partying. Cant wait to go back again.

This may sound like a stupid question but does Woodmans accept credit cards or is it cash and check only? I'm working in lake bluff,il this weekend and I wanted to stock up on some new glarus.

Belgian Red should be available in most bottle shops and grocery stores. If the big shops (Ray's/Discount/Woodman's are out of their last delivery already I'd be surprised, but Pick n Save, Sendik's, and smaller liquor stores will still have it).
