Saw this on the Three Floyds Facebook page today.

We have a special Barrel-Aged release today! BA Moloko, BA Moloko with Vanilla, BA Moloko with Cherry, and BA Moloko with Wild Cherry, are now available in 750ml bottles at our kiosk. $35 per bottle with a limit of 1 of each style per person.

    BA Moloko: 450 bottles
    BA Wylde Cherry: 210 bottles
    BA Cherry: 196 bottles
    BA Vanilla: 180 bottles

They were sold out of Vanilla by the time I got there, but I managed to get the other 3 varieties.

    Such low bottle counts...

Here's to hoping they release more Vanilla later...

I can't imagine how rare those are going to taste, unless they go sour first

$35 is a lot for a beer that will probably be infected in a few months

Would a sour milk stout then become barrel aged cottage cheese?

That or, depending on the sediment, just barrel aged sour cream and another new style.

My god that sounds delicious...barrel aged maple syrup took off, why not sour cream! (full disclosure I can eat sour cream out of the container with a spoon)

No remorse for passing on these. Vanilla sounds intriguing, but I've had too many $35 FFF bottles that didn't offer much difference from something off the shelf for 1/3 of the price.

My only question is what is the difference between Cherry and Wild Cherry? If feels like one of those cherries should have been a coffee Moloko to have totally killed it.

For a brewery with such a strong relationship with a coffee business, they sure do release a surprisingly small amount of coffee aged variants. I'm not counting Dark Lord, btw, because I almost never pick up on the coffee flavors.

Agreed, I refuse to count Dark Lord as a coffee stout, because I've never successfully picked up coffee over the thick and powerful diabetes flavor.

(I like Dark Lord, for the record)

On another note, I feel like FFF goes out of their way to troll their fans. They know that anything vanilla they produce will easily be the most popular variant, and yet don't produce it in any quantities to reflect that fact. When it comes to DL, I understand wanting to have fun and produce weird variants, but I'm always surprised they don't do "100 bottles of X weird variant, 2000 bottles of vanilla, 2000 bottles of vanilla & random adjunct Y". Same applies here: 180 bottles of vanilla moloko, 2 different variants with higher bottle counts, that both contain cherry.

If the only other coffee beer they produce on a regular basis was Wig Splitter, I'd be a happy man.

Do all these variants mean no Conquistador this year or does it just need more time in the barrel?

I have always wondered when/if fff would release a stout in a six pack format. It's long overdue. A coffee stout would be great in 6 pack format.

Wig Splitter basically replaced HBI. HBI used Intelligencia which FFF no longer uses. I do think they slightly changed the recipe as well though as I find WS to have a much fuller body that HBI ever had, which was always my lone complaint about it.

@theburden any chance you could let us know the barrels used for the 4 BA molokos? I drink a Wylde cherry last night and it reminded me so much of Ginjinha, also known as Ginja, which is a portuguese liqueur made from infusing brandy with tart cherries and adding sugar. I'm guessing the barrel was maybe brandy or sherry.

Dang; $35 seems like too much. Probably $15 too much. I'll pay $15.99 for Black Butte anniversary all day over this; without the hassle of standing in line outside the brewpub.

FFF has lost me as a retail customer over the last year. Their price point is just too high on nearly everything considering all the other quality alternatives.

Go to the brewpub and eat, have a beer or two? Sure. Pick up something if no line at the kiosk while I'm there eating? Sure. Buy from a retailer...nope. Buy BA stuff...nope.

I agree with most of this in regards to high pricing, but are their 6 packs really priced high? I always thought those were well priced. I thought Zombie Dust (and other beers in the 6 pack format) went for around $12-13 for a 6 pack at a retailer (non-shady one, that is), which I think is pretty solid.

Bombers are a whole different story, but that's more than just a 3 Floyds issue (even though some of theirs are higher than even other overpriced bombers).

I think 12.99-13.99 is too high for 6 beers unless they are "doubles" (IPA, Stout, etc.). I can't see paying 12.99 for Alpha King (my favorite of theirs) when I can get another very solid APA/IPA for 8.99/9.99. 20-40% too high and with the amount I drink that can add up.

There certainly are cheaper options, but are there many 6 pack of "doubles" out there going for $13? I know Ninja vs. Unicorn is probably in that category, and that's one of my favorite beers, but I just can't think of others. I like Todd the Axeman and Hopslam, and those are both well about the $13-14 range.

Bottom line for me...I much prefer Zombie Dust at $13 than some of the other options in the lower price range. I'll pay a couple or few bucks more for what I deem to be better quality.

I will second ZD pricing being fine. We're seeing a lot of 4-packs of 16oz cans in the $10-15 range (regardless of ABV), and a 6 pack of 12oz bottles is obviously more liquid. I'd never deign to tell someone what is or is not too expensive for them to spend money on, but I will say that I don't think ZD and the like are all that high nowadays. I used to balk at Sculpin ("$15 for a six-pack? No way"), but times are a-changin'.

I honestly can't remember the last 4/6 pack I purchased that was under $9.99 (maybe Revolution or Half Acre on sale), and many were much more.

We all have our quirks when it comes to prices. For instance, I almost never buy Allagash even though I have paid more for beer.

However, FFF normal stuff is priced around normal when you consider the $11 4-pack that is so popular now and bombers in general. $35 for non-DL barrel-aged, not so much.

Anyone go to the Warpigs @ FFF event yesterday? It was quite enjoyable. Good beers on draft from Warpigs and FFF. Very laid back crowd, no lines; amazing what happens if you remove the frenzy of having to get bottles of whales....

Couldn't agree more; I thought it was one of the best-run events I've been to. Loved seeing the fire department and local policemen hanging out with the drinkers. Good vibes all around. Finally got to try Dark Lord, although I think Lazurite was my personal favorite on the day.

If you buy directly from the pub, I believe their six packs are $10 a piece, which is a great price point. BA stuff can get pricey, but regularly brewed beer is completely reasonable.
