I've been hearing great things about the 3 Stars new DIPA. Anyone know who has it on tap - I'm running a 10-miler tomorrow, so have not been drinking the past few days....and would very much like to make 2 to the Dome my first post-race beer.

I just saw Smoke n Barrel tapping it tonight. Pouring anywhere else?

Also...how does it stack up vs. OTWOA?

We (Smoke and Barrel) have a keg of it on tonight that was filled yesterday...We also have a back-up, so it should still be on tomorrow.

As for how it stacks up, they're very different. Two to the Dome is a big Citra bomb with a significant malt backbone. It tastes like something Three Floyds would make.

On the Wings is slightly drier with a more complex hop profile (from the Falconer's) and less of a malt presence.

    Both are outstanding.

IMHO, Two to the Dome was nice, but Wings blows it away. Dome is sweeter than Wings. Not sure where the 3Floyds comparison is based, but I have had plenty of Floyds and don't see a connection.

Every Three Floyds DIPA I've had contains a huge malt backbone and great hop flavor. Was just trying to use that as a basis to describing the hop/malt profile. Not comparing it to any specific beer. Could have used a few other breweries in place of Three Floyds, just the one that popped into my head.

Yeah, I don't see any connection between Dome and any 3Floyds Pale, but now we're just debating personal taste. To me, Dome reminded me of a beefed up Citizen.

Dome is a belgian style DIPA?

No, it's not Belgian style, but it's definitely got a sweeter, candy component that some other DIPAs don't have. Once again, I thought it was a nice beer but Wings is the beer that will resonate more with DIPA lovers.

So is it actually good? I hate to say it, but I haven't really enjoyed anything 3 Stars has released so far. I'd already kinda given up on them.

It's fantastic, IMO. Pours like apple cider. It does have a big malt backbone, but the citrus blast in the nose and the first sip is incredible. Really good beer.

I tried this last week at Meridian Pint. On one hand, it's got a nice citrusy hop aroma and flavor, and it's the best beer I've had from 3 Stars, though that's not saying much. On the other hand, it's a little too sweet and malty for my taste. All-in-all, a good DIPA, but not a great one. Still, it's encouraging to see 3 Stars making some progress. Now I won't completely write them off!

I also had Flying Dog's Bloodline Blood Orange IPA that night, and wow, that beer really impressed me. Very creative and probably the best beer I've ever had from Flying Dog, another brewery I typically don't like.

<sarcasm> Gotta love the name. </sarcasm>
When I drink a beer or think about DC, I also want to think about being shot in the head.

100% agree with this. I rate on the other site, and I gave it a 3.4 out of 5. It's nice but I wouldn't go out of my way for this like I would other local beers.
