It’s time for Too Much Time, part 5! Now, who remembers that awesome kids’ game show from the ‘80s and ‘90s? Welcome to
    [IMG]
(No, not the one hosted by Alex Trebek in the ‘70s -- I’m not imitating celtic :stuck_out_tongue: )

This is the fifth in the well-known series, "Most Awesome Threads on BA" (with a special round of applause for our previous hosts Dfclav, Nosignsofpain/ehammond1, johnhenryconway, and celticfutblclub), and I hope this round lives up to half the fun of the previous ones.

Read through all the rules first -- they’re a little complex, but in practice it’ll be pretty simple, I swear. Only sign up if you can commit to spending way too much time on BA, including being online at 8pm EST on weekday evenings for the next two weeks, and if you are willing to send a box containing at least 36 oz good beer to one of the winners if you lose. This is open to the lower 48 (sorry).

    1st place wins: My box + 7 Boxes (from 4th - 10th place)
    2nd place wins: 4 boxes (from 11th - 14th place)
    3rd place wins: 2 boxes (from 15th + 16th place)

So far, my box has a bunch of stuff that's spent loving time in a barrel, including goodies from Kuhnhenn, Dark Horse, Founders, and Cantillon. I'll do my best to tailor it to the winner's taste

    Team Formation
    • The first 16 people to sign up in this thread are in, and I will assign you to two teams of 8.
    • Once the teams are full, I’ll start a conversation with each team, where you should conduct all your private team deliberations.
    • Your first task will be choosing a team name (teams on the show had such inventive monikers as the Corncobs, Slime Suckers, Wacky Wall Walkers, High Voltage, Terminating Twosome, etc.)

    The “Main Game”
    • There will be an initial challenge (at some point in the 24 hours after teams have been finalized) to establish control of the first question.
    • At 8pm every night Monday-Friday (when we start depends how long sign-ups take -- I’ll make it very clear) the main game starts.
    • I will ask the team with control a question, and they will have five minutes to answer. If they answer correctly, every member of the team gets 50 points. If they get it wrong, they lose 50 points and control goes to the other team.
    • If you don’t know the answer (or think the other team hasn’t got a clue), you can dare the other team to answer for double the points. If they get it right, they get 100 points and control. If they don’t know, they can double dare you back and your team has the chance to answer for 200 points. If you still don’t know, you can choose to take a Challenge instead of answering.
    • Challenges are an individual competition, where everyone from both teams competes and only one winner gets points. If the winner’s team has control, the winner gets 200 points. If the winner’s team does not have control, the winner gets 100 points and their team gets control.
    • I will ask two to three main-game questions an evening (it might vary from night to night).
    • Main game questions will generally be un-Googleable. They may involve identifying things from pictures or finding information on the internet that is difficult to search for.
    • Challenges may involve posting videos or pictures, as in previous rounds.

    Quickfire
In addition to the “main game”, I will sporadically post quickfire questions (these could be at any time). I will specify the point value when I post the question, and the first person to answer correctly gets those points. Anyone who answers incorrectly before the correct answer is posted loses points.

I may also post opportunities for bonus points, at my discretion.

    Elimination
For the first few days, no one will be eliminated. You can just rack up points and be all happy-go-lucky. Before one of the 8pm sessions, I will announce the start of eliminations, and the lowest-scoring member of each team after that evening’s game will be eliminated.

Once we’re down to three players per team, I’ll start randomly shuffling the teams each day. Only one player, the lowest scorer overall, will be eliminated each night. We'll have pre-game challenges to establish control each evening. The last night of the main game will be 2 vs 2, leaving three players to compete in the obstacle course!

    Obstacle Course
I’m not gonna tell you what the obstacle course entails, but this gives you an idea of my inspiration:

Of course I kid, it’ll just be questions and stuff... or will it?

At the end of the obstacle course, the three winners will be sorted into first, second, and third place, I'll collect shipping info, and the beer will be unleashed!

First 16 to sign up in this thread are in! Good luck!

Good luck to all of the participants. I'll be sitting this round out (moving will restrict my time on BA), but will definitely be watching.

My condolences in advance to the runner-up.

Oh, perhaps I should also mention:
    • You don't need Jeopardy-style answers -- I'll take care of all the question marks myself
    • I'll try to be lax on spelling and such, so you won't lose points because of a simple typo. If anyone appears to be taking advantage of that (e.g. spelling something so poorly they could be referring to multiple things) I'll be forced to be stricter. You get bonus points in my heart if you spell everything correctly

    Yay, you're the first!

Looks like we won't be starting tonight... I wonder if people are just too-much-timed out, or are afraid I'll make them get messy? I promise I won't -- some of the challenges will be "physical challenges" in that they involve doing something, but I'm just borrowing the game's general format.

Bonus points if you film yourself jumping in a pool of beer, though...

Hahaha I can't upload videos as my comp. is broken. I'm 100% iPhone. :slight_frown:

I've only ever uploaded video from my phone, try the Youtube app. Then again, I have an android, maybe the iphone can't handle it

Edit: just realized you probably mean embedding videos on BA -- you can do that from your phone, too, but it requires learning BB Codes. Everything you can do with the rich-text editor, you can do with those codes.

Abraxel how long do you plan on this going on for? I want to do 5.5 right in the middle so as to ruin these people's lives as well as possible

I'm kind of scared of this one... will it be over before Memorial Day?

I can't figure it out. When I try to post a video and get a code. The only options are share through FB, Google+, Twitter and Email. Email gives a link like this and the other options take me directly to FB, Twitter, etc. What's the proper way to do it?

Aw crap, I forgot about Memorial Day. I was planning to have it go about two weeks, with maybe an extra day or two for the obstacle course, but that'll conflict with Memorial Day.

How about I call a holiday weekend cease-fire? From 5pm on Friday the 25th through 8am on Tuesday the 29th, there won't be any challenges, questions, or bonus-point opportunities (this is pretty much necessary as I'll be camping way out in the woods and likely won't have a data signal). Everything should be wrapped up by the first weekend of June, though.

Hmm... then I am tentatively in. But if more people decide they want to join, I'll volunteer to be the first kicked off :grinning:

That couldn't be more perfect for me

Edit: for running 5.5 that is. Im not ready to step up to the integers version of TMTOBA yet
