    I need a new hobby.
I can't read this dribble much longer.

I super don't care about this but from that other site:
"Admin Note - This beer has been confirmed to be the equivalent of Assassin (Barrel Aged Norseman’s Wrath) with more time in the barrels. These mirror the 2014 Assassin release in that they are Pappy Van Winkle barrels and likely the same exact beer, batch, and base. However, because the brewery has chosen to distinguish the product under a new label (albeit, one that was a completely different beer before), we’ve allowed separation of this entry under our rules."

No idea how this was confirmed, but the admins on that other site take this stuff far, far too seriously. If they say they confirmed it, I believe them.

I believe much like our friend Ivan the admin at the other site claimed insider info without revealing a source. So, reading between the lines, Mike told him. Not sure why people can't just say, "I talked to Mike and this is what he said."

"Other site" is not a source! Give up your source now, otherwise I'm going to call you a big fat liar, liar pants on fire!

If you don't care, you're just a poser.

Seriously, this whole "saga" is like listening to 15 year olds debate what constitutes punk rock some days.

Mike may have said this to people, but that's hardly confirmation. Given the way he bailed, I'd be hard pressed to believe what he has to say about TG. By the same token, I'd understand taking the brewery's description with a grain of salt too. Just judge for yourself. Either you like it or you don't. So long as you can articulate the rationale behind your opinion, who cares?

What about the drivel, can you read that much longer? Or maybe you were just referring to what comes out of some people's mouths as they mindlessly argue about stupid crap on this website?

Geez, even our Toppling Goliath appreciation threads go off the rails. Maybe we're the problem.

So back to the appreciation part of this... I think SR71 is amazing and have enjoyed it a couple of times now. I love how much the flavors change as it warms up a little bit. I also really enjoyed Pompeii, reminded me why I like TG's IPAs as much as I do. I didn't care much for Easy Rider or Regifter but Pompeii was spot on for me. If the beer is good, I want it and I want to drink it, if not, I don't bother to buy it. I can't tell you the last time I bought a bottle of Sue since it just doesn't seem to be at the level I expect as of late. I am sure I will buy more in the future, but I would rather direct my dollars elsewhere until its back to the level I prefer.

In general we certainly are the problem, but TG brought this whole soap-opera drama down on themselves. I can't think of another local-ish brewery that's had so much in the way of chaos in their operations/communication/what have you. But hey, it keeps people talking about them.

Exactly. Let's all appreciate the P.T. Barnum-like quality of Toppling Goliath marketing and self promotion through social media. Beer is secondary to the myth-making.

TG dating bottles or did i imagine that? Picked up Sue, GN and SO yesterday and nothing was dated.

Yes...all the bottles I've gotten since the 2/20/15 bottling of Sue have had a date on them. It's black ink up near the neck. Can be hard to see.

So as someone who has been away for a while and just catching up, there is a "new" SR-71, which is for sure different from the "old" SR-71 (which I had and liked a few years ago), and "new" SR-71 may or may not be "old" Assassin (or same Assassin just barreled longer), but 100% the chances of me getting to try "new" SR-71 at this time are approximately 0.0%.

    Accurate summary?

New SR-71 and Assassin are both barrel aged stouts based off Norseman's Wrath. I believe there are differences in the barrels used, and the length they were aged, but they used the same base stout.

Old SR-71 was a different beer, IIRC. It was an imperial, but non-BA stout that came out a couple years back. At least I don't think it was BA. It wasn't bottled.

Your last sentence is probably dead-on.

    Sounds about right.

If you have good friends they'll share a bottle with you. Or I've heard there's a restaurant in Decorah that has bottles for sale (in house only).

Mike told me that SR-71 was imperial Rover Truck aged in Black Velvet barrels. I don't need a source, it's a fact.

Norseman's Wrath with vanilla beans. No barrels.

    That makes sense.

Would be interesting to see Norseman's Wrath make it back on.

I think that is what we were told when we had it. Good memory. I thought it was really good.
