Maybe it's West Des Moines!

I completely agree. The new Decorah brewery will dramatically increase production to the point that distributing to such far flung places such as Des Moines will not be an issue, so it wouldn't make any sense at all to build another brewery so close to their home base. I suspect, as do you, they have their sights set much further west and into much larger markets. Good for them.

Seeing as how they're selling some product in select areas of California right now, I'm guessing west coast.

But haven't they also tweeted many times about trying to work with Iowa lawmakers to allow multiple locations in the state? My thought with the tweet was that there was some sort of breakthrough (or loophole or whatever) in regards to that. They have clearly wanted another location in Iowa, so that is why I initially thought they were referencing somewhere such as Des Moines.

Maybe a second taproom, but I don't see why they'd want (or need) to build another brewery so close to their new expansion.

True...I suppose I should have paid attention to the word "brewery" a bit closer. I was thinking more along the lines of taproom/brewpub due to their prior tweets about trying to get another location open. It would seem strange to have another brewery opening. Regardless, I'm not sure I care that much, as I'm just waiting for the new Decorah location to be fully functional so we can finally get some of the better stuff here in IL.

I don't disagree with any of this, but it's possible that, for example, they're going a Firestone Walker route. Firestone Walker expanded locally along the central coast in California, plenty big to distribute to San Francisco and down to LA and San Diego, regionally, nationally...but they still built a new brewery in Los Angeles instead of some place far flung. It was the biggest nearby metro, and they use it as a pilot brewery and destination location.

California seems like a challenging market to enter. There are SO MANY breweries, and so many of them are already making IPAs at TG's caliber...that said it's a huge market with lots of people and they have cache.

Yes, this analogy could be true, except of course for the part comparing Decorah and Des Moines to LA, San Diego, and San Francisco. I kid, I kid (mostly). (Internet sarcasm disclaimer)

But yeah, "west" could mean a lot of different things and clearly there are many options that are neither Des Moines or CA.

I'm going to guess they've decided to keep the tap room on College Drive open.

From memory, but I believe Clark has said he wants 3 taprooms in Iowa. I'm assuming the second brewery "out west" is California or AZ. I'd guess AZ because the Cali market is crazy and I can't see TG getting hype out there when there are places like Monkish that are making better beers than TG's baseline stuff like Pompeii/Lightspeed/stuff of that caliber.
Who knows. I do remember him saying he wanted to keep the taproom in Decorah open though.

Having experienced the AZ beer scene a couple times in the past 6 weeks or so, I'd say they are definitely needing something of a higher quality like Toppling Goliath.
