Went to the C&C event last year, towards the end, and was very unimpressed with the assassin pour sizes (closer to 1-2 ounces). Rubaiyat though, was awesome.

I wasn't there last year but was it really 1-2 ounces though? That is shot glass worth approximately. I'd have a hard time believing people didn't raise a stink if they paid for 5-6oz pour.

I’ll be holding out for Rubaiyat to announce, have always loved their events - good people too

When do they usually announce, and is it on FaceBook? No FaceBook for me so I'm kind of in the dark.

Yeah, it was basically shot sized. I have a feeling they over-poured earlier in the day and were running really low for people late in the day, thus the super small pours.

Damn. I would have been pretty upset considering how much they are charging.

They also were misleading in regards to what they were providing with the flight. Last year, Assassin tickets were a flight that was going to include 5oz Assassin (mine definitely wasn’t), DIPA from TG, and a ‘BA Beer from Prarie’. The last one somehow turned out to be Pour Over Porter from Pulpit Rock. A fine beer but definitely not what we were sold.

Don't pass up the Safe House Saloon if you can swing it there--it's not that far away, cool place, crunchy pizza that hits the spot...other beers on draft you might not be expecting and definitely won't see in Decorah. Not talking whales, but unique!

Yeah, I can vouch for how awesome Safe House is. A month after Scorpius Morchella tapped out from the tap room, they had it and even had enough that I could get a growler. They also have a cool to-go bottle selection and I was able to pick up an Xhops Pink that I had missed out on when it hit stores the month before. Would recommend (although give me some time so I can buy myself tickets for there :stuck_out_tongue: )

On another note: I totally forgot that CnC was doing tickets for this. Now I need to figure out what I'm going to do Friday night.

CnC will still be open to the public Friday night.

Ah, I see that now. At least that means I can come hang out. Is TBocks, Rubaiyat, or Mabe's ever ticketed? Just trying to make sure I can get a pour somewhere.

    Hi Folks,

quick question - whats the best airport to fly into? Noticed that TG is about 3 hours from Des Moines or Saint Paul.

Twin Cities are probably your best bet, both in terms of price and flight flexibility. The difference in distance is almost negligible, from what I remember.

Yup. No difference in times. Twin Cities probably has cheaper flights. If you do find a cheaper flight in Des Moines, it's a horse a piece in terms of drive time.

Weather is most likely not going to impact travel, but pretty much anything is possible in Iowa in March.

    $17 for 5oz pour!?

Sorry I didnt clarify, you have to call into Mabes to get on the list. It is pretty pricy for 5oz....

I think TG was charging $20 for 5 ozs some of the big stouts on opening weekend at the new place.

So Courtyard is giving it away then?

This gets back to the point before about pricing... just because someone charges a lot doesn’t mean we should consider that the norm.

For some reason I got the feeling from reading the FB post that the price included something else besides the Assassin pour. Explicitly, no, it does not say this. It is wierd that others seem to prefer mabes. It their price would be considerably higher. Maybe that is factoring into my opinion.

  31. Boldbrew

    Boldbrew (0) Jun 26, 2017 Minnesota

I prefer Mabes simply because it was easy to get in and get our pours during the MD release and they have awesome pizza. That said I do not remember those tickets being as expensive and it definitely did not include anything besides the pour.

They're selling 2018 Assassin for less than TG was charging for older big stouts. I don't know if they're giving it away or not. No clue on what they paid for it, how much TG was marking up that other stuff, etc.

They charged $20 for a 5 ounce pour of SR-71, I think it was 2015. $10 for 5 ounces of Coffee Assassin.

For past releases, did TG announce ahead of time what the onsite bottles would be and the price for each or was it just done the day of? Also, were onsite bottles cash only?

If anyone is planning on going to Mabe's, I would call sooner rather than later. I was just told they have 15 tickets left for purchase.

TG announced on twitter that they would be doing a "Cellar Sale" when the open to the public that Saturday. I assume it means cellared onsite bottles, but who knows.
