I'm making a trip out to Portland the beginning of July for four days and am wondering how easy it is to get around the city. I'm staying at Hotel Fifty and planning on hitting the spots that always come up in the "where to go in Portland" threads. So my question is will everything be easy enough to get to by walking/lightrail/cabbing it or should I really think about renting a car?

Being at Hotel 50, i would say you are going to be in the center of everything. Walking distance to places like Bailey's Taproom and Tugboat Brewing. A bit of a longer walk to places like HotD, Burnside Brewing ect... You can always take a cab to these places as most of the major Portland Breweries are within walking distance 2-3 miles max. But if you are looking to get to some of the spots in deeper NE or SE like Hopworks then you might want to consider renting a car. I would Google Map a few of the major spots you want to go from your hotel to get an idea though as you haven't exactly outlined the specific places you want to go.

    You shouldn't need a car

No car needed. Walking from one establishment to the next is a nice beer break.

Absolutely agree! I've done Upright, Cascade, and Hair of the Dog all in the same day before strictly on foot. Kept my buzz from getting too strong so I could still taste the beer. If you don't mind walking a little bit (I'll do several miles without questioning it personally) than keep yourself DUI worry free. Some of this stuff is potent after all.

Easy walk from Downtown Marriott to Beer Mongers & APEX and to Upright. And I'm old. If I can do it, you can do it. Portland is a very pleasant pedestrian friendly city.
