Only 16 taps out of 60 are local? Eventually I guess the GM and beer order-er will realize that Austinites drink way more local stuff than out of state stuff. <25% I don't think is nearly enough IMO.

[edit: are you considering any Texas brewery as local? or just austin area breweries?]

16/60 is 26.67%, just for mathematical accuracy, and that's as good or better than I've seen at plenty of other places around town. As someone who lives in Round Rock, I'm happy to have them here in town.

Kegs aren't permanent... I'm sure if everyone drinks local, they'll get the idea.

16 is enough to have all of the best local stuff rotating in and out. I'd rather have more taps for things I can't get everywhere else.

More than enough Texas brew to keep everyone happy! I still can't believe I'll have a go-to bar less than two miles from home. I'm beginning to feel spoiled with Flix, Homefield, and now the BT.

For anecdotal accuracy, do any of you own a bar? More specifically a beer bar? And even more than that, one in Austin? Just saying that they're underrepresenting the locals by %. (Dunno how I messed up my original %, I was a stats major, ha!). Thanx for correcting my work.

You wanna be a chain resto in Austin? You gotta pretend to be organic ... Yes I realize RR is the chain driven, soulless shell part of Austin, but more real Austinites are moving out to the burbs due to cost and trying a salvage an authentic experience.

I would be happier with more local...but I mainly drink local just because I do like the local stuff.

Hopefully, they'll evaluate over time, and bring in more locals, especially seasonal stuff.

At the same time, I'm aware that this is part of a chain, and when I just went to one in Tampa last month, the majority of people there were drinking Bud Light et al., so I'm just happy to have another craft option in Round Rock which will help me avoid 30-40 minutes drives, each way, in order to get a decent pint. I love Flix and Home Field, and will be glad to add this place to the fold (see how I'm not mentioning you, Westside Alehouse? )

I am hoping they do not have any BMC on tap.

I do not mind people having it in bottles (prefer if you do not have it at all, but understand), but save the taps for the good stuff.

    Just my opinion.

Man, kind of slamming Round Rock a bit hard aren't you sir? I'm with Kmello...Looking forward to driving 5 minutes to the souless shell of downtown RR for a pint of Union Jack!

Looking at the Fb photos of the taps, I dont see any on tap, and when I was in Tampa it was Bud Light bottles I saw. Love it or not there's part of the market who goes out and wants to buy that, so I understand why its there too.

Taps look good - multiple nitro, nice variety, good locals, some ciders. Plus they'll have several hundred bottles for sale as well, if they're like the other ones. And hey, my tax dollars will get to help fund some of the best schools and safest neighborhoods in the soulless shell that is Round Rock.

    Ha.

Hell, if I opened a craft beer bar, I think I would have bottles of BMC. I would also have it known that they were $10 a bottle for that beer and that you are better off ordering craft beer. I would be friendly though, and have it clearly on the menu.

I guess you don't realize that Round Rock is not an Austin suburb, and existed long before Austin encroached upon it. Pflugerville too.

Yes, there's plenty of suburban sprawl around it, but it is its own town with plenty of its own history. I'm glad I can go get good beer there, and see the existence of places like Flix and Homefield, and now Brass Tap, as an attempt by Round Rock to hold on to its own identity.

Ok... Im the product manager for all Brass Taps, and i promise that no location will EVER serve Bud light, miller lite and the like on tap. It is literally a violation of contract. Every beer that is added on draft comes across my desk and must be approved. While they only have 16 local (meaning TX, but mostly Austin area) offerings currently, the plan is to increase that to ~25 in the coming months. as soon as your new distro legislation gets signed, this will be easier. There are ~6/280 bottles that are BMC, but they are not listed in menus, are not promoted and they are the only bottles in the cooler whose labels do not face customers. They are there to eliminate the "no" vote and keep people from walking across the street because one person in the group HAS to drink shitty beer.
Obviously i work for the company, so im biased and i know who signs my check, but this is a bar (RR location specifically, not just in general) that i really believe in. Just check it out once, form an opinion, and go from there. I think youll dig it.
PS- Im really enjoying my time in your fine city and have met a ton of really cool folks. Thanks for the hospitality. And Saltlick is pretty freaking tasty.

Ha! I'm looking forward to checking you out when I visit my friends that live up there in the soulless shell of Round Rock with their soulless children (kidding!). It'll be great to have another place to get beer up there. I might even go visit the RR BAs! We're looking at houses right now (mostly down south), but it's good to know we have options if we end up moving up north.

QUESTION: are y'all gonna do growler fills? Because I can't think of any place up there that currently does them. Not sure if it's a full liquor bar or whatnot (which wouldn't be able to do it)

They are a full liquor bar, so no. Flix is the only place in RR that fills growlers right now, I believe.

Matthew was kind enough to invite our tasting group to the super secret opening last night, and the place is gorgeous. Had some great beers, got to hang with great BAs, and I'll definitely be coming back often.

They are a full bar, so no fills. The space is very nice a comfortable and the tap list is great. I didn't check out the bottles at all but there are cooler doors full of them.
I really am excited to go back.

A couple of pictures from last night. The place itself is really beautiful, and will make a nice addition to downtown Round Rock.
