Pretty sure it's both. Nate commented a few times that the delay in brewing Sap at the end of last year was due to waiting on Simcoe hops.

    Yes, + simcoe.

Regardless, I'll be grabbing some today. Not my fav, but I didn't say I didn't like it!

Cracked open a month-old Sap the other day and, dare I say, I think it was better than when fresh.

100% agree with this. Bitterness falls off a bit and it's more to my liking.

Just whatever you do, don't sit on your Sap longer than 3-4 months.

I had one of the green labels (from April-ish) in September and it was... less than desirable. Reminded me of Molotov Lite: ultra piney oniony resin bomb. My girlfriend said, "here, try this", and I had absolutely no clue that it was Tree House. Not good.

Honestly, you shouldn't sit on any hoppy beer for over 3 months. I typically don't let anything get past 2 and 1 month is a sweet spot in my opinion.

    My $.02 -
I have noticed some light garlicy stuff on Alter, very slightly on some batches of Green, Juice Machine and most notably on Doppleganger. I get more of the green onion/garlic notes on most Trillium DIPAs or anything brewed with Falconers Flight or Summit, but there is a slight hint of the flavor on anything that is hopped heavily enough, regardless of if these more onion/garlic prone hops are used.

From my homebrewing experience, seems like a pretty simple tradeoff; more dry hops=more flavor and aroma- at a certain point a little bit of vegital taste comes out too. In this world of double-triple-dry-hopped-moar-cloudy-is-better, I think it is tough to consistently toe that line of ultra-hopped but not crossing into some garlic, especially with batches of hops having different oil content, etc.

Sometimes the flavors desist after the beer settles out a little. If something tastes a little too 'green' for you, maybe wait a week or two on those cans.

How often do they have Julius available? I was just there for the first time on Saturday, and my wife may kill me if I take the 4 hour round trip (including growler fill wait time) again so soon. I'm very tempted to take the trip tomorrow, but I can hold off if they release Julius fairly regularly. I check the website pretty regularly, but don't recall seeing Julius available in the past few weeks. Would be interested in the Sap as well. Very much enjoying the Bright, Green, and Alter Ego I picked up last week!

There's Simcoe and Columbus in Sap, but it's mostly Chinook. I've been trying to narrow down the hops in Julius and the no Simcoe is a new data point because they released Julius after they made this comment. Thanks for the reminder!

whats your wife offering as an alternative use for those 4 hours? :sunglasses:

but more to the point, Julius is (?) the most frequently brewed tree house beer. at least every other week

If I get there at 7:30p on a typical Thursday, how long will it take me to get growlers filled?
  21. skleice

    skleice Aspirant (299) Aug 6, 2015 Connecticut

It really depends with what's available, but I've found that 45 minutes is a good average.

I remember around 230-3 they tweeted that there was no line - we were there around 5 and were in and out. Assuming both were 450 case runs, that's almost 1500 people. Kinda hard to believe. I noticed they didn't announce how many cases they started with. Maybe it wasn't 450?

just canceled my plans to head up there. was about to leave CT now but i would get there at around 2pm and not get out til 5pm for 6 cans (maybe, although they will prob be releasing one more can today) and 3 growlers.. meh. ill wait til next week. NEBCO Here I come

I'm guessing one or both of those batches were not ~450 cases yields. They have been posting on their website that there are "plenty for today" recently instead of "there are x amount of cases". Who knows though.

    RuckIt Aspirant (211) Apr 29, 2008 Massachusetts

Considering they don't open until 5pm, you wouldn't have been out until 5:30 anyways - unless they opened early due to a long line.

That said, there are 2 more runs this week, and if history is any indication, one will be today. With no announcement yet, if they do can today it's probably something special. Thursdays have been the Very "X" or KJ days recently iirc.

The line was probably 100+ deep when I arrived at 12:45 pm and still going strong when I walked out 30 minutes later.

Quick question. If you get there early, do they allow you to put a cooler in line and then chill in your car if its cold or raining out?

Anyone else kind of upset that they keep doing this 8pp thing on Wednesdays and then by Thursday it drops down to 3/4PP? I get that they want to get people as much beer as possible but doesn't it make more sense to just do 6PP on Wednesday and 6PP on Thursday. I don't think anyone would have complained with walking out with 12 cans instead of 16 yesterday but now on Thursday you're looking at 6(+ maybe another 3 in form of a DIPA). I think they need to realize how crowded they actually get on Wednesdays now

I'm guessing the yields were the normal amount yesterday. Maybe they decided to hold more for growlers in hopes that it lasts a little longer

No. I am not upset about the ability to buy pretty much the same amount of beer as I could in 2014 in growlers, and then also grab up 8-12+ total cans of three different beers. I'm also not upset about the ability to show up on a Wednesday and pick up cans with minimal wait. Why do people get "upset" about beer in the first place?
