I do get what you're saying, that people may subconsciously adjust how they think something tastes to match their level of expectation... like two steaks that objectively taste the same blind may seem different levels of delicious if one is served to you at Ruth's Chris and the other at Applebee's.

I'm curious about the other side of the coin, though; there's always at least some people who have the opposite reaction, where they put something they've never had on such a pedestal that no matter how good or satisfying it is, it falls short of their expectations. TH beers being more easily accessible may have the effect of dampening both of these psychological quirks.

    Edit: Accidentally a word.

Thank you. Perfect analogy with the steaks. You also present a very interesting paradox in that one action can impact two completely opposite perceptions. In one situation reducing expectations could have a positive effect and in another it could have a negative one.

I've always been pretty underwhelmed by the food at Armsby Abbey outside of the (pretty good) burger and the pulled pork sandwich.

I haven't been to Bukowski's but I've had poutine all over Montreal and beyond and Armsby's rates pretty highly in my opinion and as good as the poutine is in Montreal they don't have HF.

You serious? There's nothing metaphorical about what you said, you said that exclusive things are more appealing. The reality of the situation is that appealing things are often exclusive, but not always. The quality of the product creates the exclusivity, not the other way around.

The steak analogy isn't very apt when you consider the fact that not everyone buys into hype. A 200$ steak that is charred beyond recognition will still taste like garbage to most people even if it's filet mignon. However if that person is obsessed with filet mignon and it's apparent superiority, they will likely still enjoy the black steak. Someone like me though, I like things that taste good and dislike things that don't, regardless of their associated hype. When I tried Heavy Mettle and The Streets by Trillium I thought they were pretty mediocre, but when I tried Trillbomb and PM Dawn I thought they were amazing.

Hype and rarity should be irrelevant to your actual assessment of a product

When the Brimfield Flea Market is going on, the best way to Tree House from Sturbridge is to go on rt20 and then turn left on rt19 and go the back way to Tree House.

You guys should take your Psy 101 conversation to a private message chat. I suggest you discuss it as you browse antique door knobs at the Brimfield fair.

It's an amazing burger and their food is pretty much the best I've found in central mass which is why I'm so baffled by their lousy non-crispy fries.

Quick question. Does anyone know if any stouts that are similar to doubleshot's mouthfeel? I mean the ridiculously viscous thickness. The most recent one they did (colombia el jordan) was one of the best beers ive ever had. Anything from trillium or bottleshops in Mass compare?

That's a pretty good question, DS definitely has a unique frothyness and carbonation to it. Can't say i've had anything quite like it off the shelf. Most of the good stuff in bottleshops are imperial stouts with much less carbonation and higher ABV.

PM Dawn from Trillium, when they have it, compares nicely to Double Shot. I'd also give Night & Day a shot, since it's actually available right now.
