Homebrew mild now - need to finish them soon, they are getting to be a few months old. Rather roasty and chocolatey, sort of a mini stout/porter

Last one of the night, Youngs double chocolate stout

Not usually a fan of flavoured beers but this one is pleasantly surprising - aroma suggested at too much chocolate but it tastes a bit smokey with not too much chocolate and it's quite dry.

Cheeky late night Schlenkerla... reading about German beer at this time of night really isn't healthy.

The depressing sight of the head of your university real ale society telling a local wetherspoons not to sell Thornbridge Jaipur but to go for Hobgoblin instead :(

Pint of Grantham Stout to begin with-can't resist the dark stuff- then I forget how many pints of Bengal Lancer. Very nice but not perhaps up to a local beer I could mention.

I try that loads and not just with hefeweizen. BJCP pouring style geeks would probably cry themselves to sleep if they saw me pour a mild

It's mainly because I have an inordinate number of those types of glasses for some reason.

Having a cheeky homebrewed IPA thing - it's maturing quite quickly and turning into a good brew - not a usual occurrence for me.

Some of those Kopikat stouts, some Baristas, some Mokkos, a Diablo and an Oregon. 2/3 of the stouts are for Denno though!

tell you what it probably is ...

I fired a few emails to Andy at summer wine to see if he had any bottles of the standard kopikat lying around (not on the website) that he could sell to me (he hasn't)

Turns out they sold out of everything over Xmas apart from the BA Kopikats, therefore they won't be up to full stock levels until sometime in February

Think you may be waiting till then?

At least the IPA's will be uber fresh !

Shouldn't be a problem though as the ones I ordered were the BA ones (sorry didn't check 'til just now!). Emailed info@summerwines. Hopefully it isn't one of those cases where they sold out before they could update the site, which used to happen at BoE sometimes. Cheers.

nah - he said there was plenty of the BA Kopikat in stock but that was about it

think you'll be waiting while the others complete the brewing cycle and bottling!

having popped into Leeds to see the grand départ announcement I thought it only right to visit The North Bar, first up was Brooklyn Brewery Brewmasters Reserve There Will Be Black, tasty. But not as tasty as Brasserie De La Senne Zinnebir, a truly awesome beer. Finished with Buxton Black IPA, nice, reminiscent of Summer Wine Diablo but with more body. Should have had another Zinnebir.

That accounted for about 80% of what I drank last time I was in Brussels. An astoundingly good beer on tap.

Apparently Summer Wine has just undergone a complete refit which is why some orders are delayed. Andy said he'll be throwing in a few extras as apology for the delay, and that it should be sent off on Monday! Tidy!

I've kicked things off with a Hoegaarden, followey by a Flensburger Winterbock.

I'm now on an FD Snake Dog IPA (the artwork on the can is superb).....

Yeah I was quite pleased seeing as none of them get to the UK and I've always wanted to try Deschutes stuff.

What Deschutes did you get other than Obsidian, which I can see in the picture?

Their dark beers are generally good, Abyss and Black Butte xxx being top notch, but I've not been too impressed with their lighter coloured offerings.

Just the Obsidian, he tried to get Black Butte but they didn't have any in and I thought it would be a bit cheeky asking for Abyss as I'd only just met him and I hear it's quite pricey (compared with the smaller regular beers). No lighter beers as when he asked me what I wanted I just said dark beers, hoping to get some nice stouts.

Don't confuse Black Butte with Black Butte xxx (insert year anniversary beer).
The former is an easily available 5% ish jobbie whilst the Black Butte (xxx) is an 11% one off release wax sealed affair.

Either'd do me fine! I guessed he was going to get the regular but if he got the special I wouldn't mind ;)

Having a big beer weekend. Had AB12 and thornbridge honey imperial stout last night- both great. Tonight so far i've had a Beavertown 8 ball, which was creamy greatness, evil twin ashtray heart, which has wrecked my palette and am now onto a brodie's mofo stout, which is salty goodness!
