Whilst drinking beer I'm reading the diary of my 2014 Trans-Siberian Express misadventure. It was fucking awful. I'm having a quad-off tonight, and Rochefort 10 is winning by a mile. St Bernardus and Westy 12 taste like junk in comparison.

Anyone know if Aldi or Lidl are making any sort of Oktoberfest effort on the beer front? Or any other supermarkets

    Abbaye Des Rocs Bruin
    Moor Riders Revival
    Affligem Double

Abbaye Des Rocs was the stand out, everything a sweet, easy drinking strong ale should be. RR would be an acquired taste due to the green tea infusion, although not overpowering still strange.

Shefford Brewery Dark Mild. Sound but very one dimensional.

We have it for a six month period (at least) because it was the best selling beer at the Aldi craft ale festival. As Hanglow says, we also have The Pale Armadillo and both are only £1.49...happy days.

Just noticed the best before date on Jarl is listed as January 2017. Bit silly for a sub 4% hoppy beer

Yeastie Boys Pot Kettle Black and Gunnamatta IPA. Both past their BB dates but still pretty good. Must have been awesome a few months ago. Although I do love how the hops being more subtle in the Gunnamatta means you get a really gentle but firm dose of those tea leaves in the aftertaste.

Yesterday I was judging at SIBA North East Competition in York, not exactly blown over by anything I had. Three rounds, 27 beers, Ossett Treacle Stout was best.

    Been having a quiet time recently because I'm saving my money for Gdansk in 3 weeks, however, went to my local 'Spoons for a few with Mrs. Kozel, we had;

    Sixpoint - Bengali Tiger,
    Thwaits - 13 Guns,
    An Teallach - The Hector,
    Devil's Backbone,
    Broughton - Hopopotomus.

Came home and had a lovely Shiraz and a couple of Batemans Hazelnut Brownie Ales.

You know it's saison-ish, it's dry like vermouth & spicy
but the aroma somehow reminds me of Tetley bitter from Leeds on top form
& the taste has a hint of Younger's scotch bitter from donkeys years back
