    Just home from a great night out with friends in South Queensferry and Linlithgow, had;
    Jaw Brew - Fathom,
Innis and Gunn - Toasted Oak IPA,
    Kelburn - Dark Moon,
    Orkney - Dark Island,
    Innis and Gunn - Original,
Harviestoun - Old Engine Oil Engineer's Reserve, fab
    Williams - Double Joker IPA,
    An Teallach - Crofters IPA.

Nice bottle of Shiraz with our meal and job's a good un.

Another blind taste testing with a couple of budding beer nerds. Dark abbey style beers again.

We were unanimous in our verdicts that Rochefort 10 was the out and out winner. Pannepot was number two, despite being a bad bottle. Not a classic quad though. Westy 12 was in the middle, and we noted it for being the most phenolic tasting. St Bernardus and Chimay Blue fell flat, the latter tasting too much like bread. Wish I could've gotten hold of some La Trappe and Achel.

Siren Rainbow Collaboration project '15 - seems like a cool idea but it's a shame you can never try it as it gets sold out so quickly. Seriously fuck these releases and shit like that. Worst part of American beer culture.

My favourites of those I've tried are St Bernadus and Rocheforte 10 . Chimay is guff imo although I've only ever had newer bottles. Not tried Westvleteren 12

Weirdly, and remember at this point I'd only been drinking for a year or so, but I found St. Bernadus and Rochefort undrinkable, liked Chimay, and then about a year later loved Westvleteren.

I spent literally 3 hours yesterday morning on the siren website trying to order this, continuously having to refresh the page, even when eventually adding it to the basket and trying to check out, each part of the check out kept crashing too. Eventually I managed to get it finished, then within one hour I checked back and it was sold out. Didn't realise it would be this much effort, I had similar problems but was unsuccessful with the bottles of un-human cannonball.

Went to a BBQ with a bottle of Kernel India Porter (very nice indeed) amongst other things. A stranger next to me was shocked to see a Kernel label. She lives opposite the brewery and thought it was a little known brewery and exclusive to Bermondsey.

Pint of Sambrooks Scrumdown in the cricketers on Richmond green. Love this pub, they print their own "newspaper" which is mostly crap (just 3 or 4 pages as a big advert), but there's always a voucher for a free pint of ale so you can come in, grab your pint, sit down, get the voucher and get your next pint free.

    Van Den Bossche Buffalo Stout
    Affligem Double
Wiper and True In the Groves
NovaBirra Big Nose (free from Beergium, thanks)

Enjoyed the stout which was nothing really like one but still a very easy drinking, smooth strong dark ale. B N best freebie I've ever had.

Had a couple of bottles over the weekend, not bad, not good, not great. And yet while unadventurous it wasn't rank like you describe. Reacquainting myself with their double stout soon.

Which Ola Dubh did you have, 12, 16 or 18?

They also do a gift pack with all 3 in it for about £15. A hint to your other half around Christmas/birthday/father's day/anniversary might work a treat...did for me.
