Cheers for the comment. I did a little bit of homework on the beers and places. Everywhere would happily give you tasters. Found a few places with happy hours, large beer for small etc. early on so didn't do any flights and grabbed quite a few of them from the supermarkets to drink in the hotel as had a budget. Didn't visit any of the Mikkeller bars as wrapped up in the perhaps lesser known/cheaper bars.

Sounds like a good trip

Drinking a Highland Orkney Blast, decent as always but these 18 month BBE dates are a bit of a joke. I assume it's William Bros new bottling line and supermarket pressure that is responsible as a bunch of their beers, Fyne and this have those long dates now and I know they do a lot of bottling for other breweries, or at least they did

Most likely. The non-supermarket Fullers beers aren't so strict.

    Hah

Imperial stouts are allowed  Burtons too

These are hoppy beers - orkney best is a strong, hoppy pale ale, Jarl is 3.8% ffs and hoppy and there was another sub 4% from WIlliams bros that had an 18month date on it too.

says a lot that I can't find the original De Molen Rasputin on this site rather than all the BA ones.... anyway, its good but hardly earth shattering.

oh its called Disputin because of murican litigation wank. Great.

Visited Dawkins Ales who have just moved into a local warehouse to me in Bristol. Sampled a few of their brews :

    Dawkins Black Flag Porter
    Dawkins Mosaic

Also picked up a bottle of their Barley Wine Albion 2014 vintage for the cellar. They have plans to open up the brewery at weekends in the future

Had a few pints of Red Sails - Cherry Porter by Shepherd Neame in 'Spoons and really enjoyed them. Like a liquid black forest gateaux.
Bought a few beers from Valhalla's Goat en-route to the football in Dumbarton, but only tried the Yellow Belly - Peanut Butter Imperial Stout 11%...Wow!!!

Buxton - Imperial Black, excellent black IPA,
Buxton - Red Raspberry Rye, lovely tart/sour raspberry ale.

After another overall mediocre 'Spoons festival I finally found a gem today.
Central City Red Racer IPA is easily the best of the beers I've had in this festival & is probably one of the best beers I've had in a 'Spoons for a very long time!

We didn't have that in our local 'Spoons tho' I saw it was available to some, really fancied it.

Anyway, back to my purchases from the Goat,
Beavertown - Quelle Dry Hopped Saison - very nice for a saison,
Buxton - Tsar Russian Imperial Stout, fantastic beer. I genuinely think I've never had a bad or even ordinary Buxton beer. I don't have easy access to their beers, but I'm happy to drive to Glasgow just to buy some.

Great call. So many Buxton beers that stand out, I can't even remember them all.

    That's in Edinburgh, right?

I've only had Yellow Belly once (at this years Indy Man Beer Con) but my goodness, what a drop! I've a trip to Edinburgh booked for December, so I will definitely be making a visit to Valhalla's Goat now. I'll save up some £7's!

Had Brewdog's latest Born To Die IPA, great beer which hides the 8 odd % well.

Ahhh, gutted. I've never seen it available to buy anywhere.
Anyone know if anywhere in Edinburgh's likely to have it?
