Was told from my regular store in SNJ that it's on back order of 300 cases from the brewery.
Told maybe in a week or so.
Did find it in a further store though.

Case price right now is $43. If I didn't already have so much beer on hand (see addicted to buying thread) then I would have bought a case already.

So, Dirt Wolf is replacing Hop Wallop? Should I at least give Hop Wallop a try before it goes away? Hope this isn't too far off topic . . .

    It is five months.

That would make it bottled on 9/12/13.

Not off topic from this angle. After DirtWolf was out, I tried to buy some more Hop Wallop myself just for comparison purposes and to jog my memory beyond my previous review of it. So far I can't find any left in any of the several stores I shopped. Good luck to us finding some. Of course it would be rather old by now...

Meanwhile, poor Hop Devil is now Victory's forgotten IPA stepchild. And it's damn good stuff.

Is it too early to start calling for this to be in cans? Anyways... This stuff's amazing! After seeing it in the threads for a while, it just showed up today, bought it today, and drank it today. Blown away today! This gives me both my "Sucks" AND "Heady" fix at the same time. Best thing is, it's year round AND 12oz, win win!

I had Dirtwolf at a tasting I was ecstatic to try it, it was great I will throw out there It was all southern Pa breweries and there was a small brewery called Helltown from Mt. Pleasant pa they had a DIPA called Idlehands and it was jaw dropping so it really tainted my view of Dirtwolf I was like eh......However, Golden Monkey aged in White wine barrels not bad not bad

Got a 4-pack at Wegman's Warrington today for $9.99. Drinking one now and in my opinion it's better than Hop Wallop, which is a compliment I wouldn't give lightly.

I picked up both about the same time too. Didn't think it was close. Loved the Dirt Wolf. The Green Bullet was just OK and was like $14 or $15/4-pack while the Dirt Wolf was $10. Green Bullet kind of disappointed which made the Dirt Wolf seem that much better. Totally different beers though.

    Great beer.
I get an almost strawberry note, is that the Mosiac hops ? Not had many beers with Mosiac.
My bottle is about 5 weeks old so it's not as overly hoppy I'm sure as it sounds some are getting in fresher bottles.
    Same with aroma.
Hope to get some really fresh soon here.

Used my last heady for the betterment of the BA community. Both beers pour similar in color and both have same hazy look. Smell hands down goes to heady. There's not really anything out there that can compete IMO. Dirtwolf is a little more citrus forward and also has a bitterness that sticks and lingers a tad longer. Both are smooth but heady just has an absolute perfect balance and a little more flavor depth.

Overall, heady is clearly in a class by itself as there's nothing really that matches it's unique smell and flavor but the gap between these two was a hell of a lot less than I thought. Dirtwolf is like Eli Manning whereas heady is Peyton, lol I'd put heady at a 10/10 where dirtwolf is like a 9.5/10. Dirtwolf definitely holds it's own and will easily suffice as a suitable alternative to heady until I can get some more.

bad analogy but after drinking both down and feeling the effects, it just popped in my head so figured what the hell.

Beer should hopefully be more consistent than Eli.

I liked this beer but it was still pretty bitter. Was expecting more tropical notes and it to be a little sweeter but I'm becoming more and more picky with IPAs lately.

heady is 6-1 while dirt wolf is 1-6. :stuck_out_tongue:

has dirtwolf shown up in maryland (specifically around the baltimore area)?

It was pretty uncanny though how similar the color and haziness was. Im pretty sure that heady actually DOES have weed in it though, lol.

I picked up a four pack, and I'm about to crack open the last one. I think this is an excellent beer, but I do wish it was a bit more fruit-forward; it comes across as a smidge too drily bitter to me. Once you factor in price and availability, however, it really shines. I wish I'd had Hop Wallop as a comparison.

Sounds like I need to revisit.

I had a four pack a few weeks ago. No real smell to it and nothing really going on taste wise that kept me interested. I actually poured the last 1/3 out of my glass on the second beer. After reading these posts I might have had an off batch or my taste was off. The person I split the pack with had the same thoughts. Drank over two nights.

I paid 9.99 out the door and cases are $40 plus tax. Right about $7 a pack.

    Enjoy

Well, Eli has won 2 Super Bowls while Payton has only one one. (This Eagles fan hates to acknowledge any Giants success, though.)

I did a similar comparison. However, I found DirtWolf's aroma vastly superior to Heady Topper's, but that was it's only victory (no pun untended). Everywhere else, Heady Topper was the winner. DirtWolf is an amazing beer, and for its price/availability I will be going back to it regularly. (My beer store has 1-day-old cases of it: I will be spoiled for quite some time!) However, Heady Topper is still world-class in its category for good reason.

i'd take heady every time, but dirtwolf is a fantastic beer.

honestly, i'd say it's unbeatable if price / availability / quality full equation is what's being compared.

...again, assuming it moves fast enough to be available fresh. if they oversaturate the market with it, it will be just another old beer on the shelf (probably still delicious, but not as much "whoa how am i just going out buying THIS for so cheap??").

    The beer is delicious.

It is a bit hard to get in central/southern NJ though. It is on back order unfortunately. Unfortunately, brewing this beer has been strenuous on Victory's equipment. The huge amount of dry-hopping that is added to the final product has caused some of their equipment to become clogged with hop particles and other particulate. They lost a 300 BBL batch because of this issue. The brewery rep that briefed us on this said they will be increasing production to continue to meet demand, but it is much higher than they expected. They expected their first shipments to distros to sell out in 2-3 weeks. It sold out in 2 days.

Keep a lookout for Winter Cheers as well. I tasted it today, and it was very very good. A lot of banana and clove characteristics, much like a traditional German hefe, but with a bit more belgian style influence. It'll only be around for about 2 months, so try I would check it out when you see it.
