I'm going to be in my hometown of LA (Alhambra area) for a 4day weekend and want to check out some breweries or beer bar/pubs spots while I'm there. I live in the Bay area now up north and we have our fair share of good brew spots here. I want to see want SoCal has to offer. Anywhere you guys can recommend to me? Good spot for Craftsman brew is a plus. Looking for some good local brew and food too. Food near by a spot is cool too. Thanks. Cheers.

If you're going to be in Alhambra, 38 Degrees (http://38degreesalhambra.com/) is a nice bar & grill. I was there yesterday. They have a very nice rotating tap list. I live in Monterey Park, so it's only a stone throw away for me. Yesterday, they had Craftsman Hefe. Being from SF, you probably get your share of RR, but they had Blind Pig, Pliny, 2 Row, and Damnation. Also, Abyss.

I think the best local brewery is probably Beachwood out of Long Beach. They had a couple of Beachwood on tap as well.

Thanks mrcraft. I'll be in Alhambra but I'm down to travel anywhere in the greater L.A. area as well and yes I do have my fair share of RR. I'm a ten minute walk away from the brewery.

Definitely check out the stuffed sandwhich. Huge selection of beers and usually a few limited releases on draft! Close to Alhambra.

Also in Pasadena is a stone company store (basically a tasting room)... congregation ale house, and a great brew pub called lucky baldwins

Lucky Baldwins always seems to get a decent selection of Craftsman that other places don't usually get right away. Here's the link for their tap list. They have 6 Craftsman on tap currently: http://www.luckybaldwins.com/beer.html

    Enjoy your visit, Cheers!

It's about time they added a better taplist to their website. For the longest time it was a draft list for Christmas season 2011.

Any chance any bottle shops in LA will have any alpine beers?

I think Duet may have made a round last week but it's highly unlikely you'll see any remnants this week.

The aforementioned 38 Degrees sells bottles for takeaway, and when I called last week, they said there was a "good chance" they'd be getting Alpine bottles this week.

it's fine, not a place i ever really want to go to unless something special is on tap. Just come to Blue Palms and Surly Goat when in Hollywood, these are good, Surly gets fun on weekends late night with the dj and loads of womens. . You'll be in the heart of amazing asian food and should eat all of it. Just steps from 38 degrees is Yasmine, the top malaysian restaurant in the city, just down the street you've got Golden Deli, teh golden standard for pho, and dimsum galore. I'd go to Elite or NBC if i were you.

Meaning it turns into a club, not a beer bar. I avoid going at night.

Not really. I was there 2 weekends ago. Noone was dancing. There's music playing, people having fun, i hung out outside and watched the ladies. I dont need to look at you beardies exclusively everytime i want a beer.

you're right though, it's not what people generally prefer for craft night out. I just thought the guy might want a lively option and i always like their taplist. if i didn't live near it i might have a different opinion i guess.

I checked out Surly Goat last summer after hearing a lot of good things. When we walked up and there were bouncers, I pretty much knew this wasn't my kind of place. Take that with a grain of salt though as I live in a town where people dress like they are homeless half the time plus I am married with a kid.

If I was early 20's and lived in the area, I'd probably be there all the time. Tap list was great.

Yes, that's only weekend nights though. Every other day or time it's just another pub - pretty quiet actually. You can bring food with you as well and chomp as you drink their beers. Hard to find better constistent taplists in the area. Their other bar is really cool too.
