I'm from NJ but go to school in RI right now. I'll be in Myrtle Beach for a week. What are the good local beers from the Carolinas? Or even beers that are readily available, but not available elsewhere? Thanks!

Not sure what you folks see but I'm sure there will be many beers around here you have not tried. Foothills, Sweetwater, Terrapin, Duck Rabbit, Mother Earth, etc. are all great beers and I believe all distributed in MB. The best (and one of the only) places to buy beer in MB is the Piggly Wiggly -Market Common. Make sure you go to that one. It's in an upscale mixed use development next to an old airport. They have growler stations and a nice bottle selection. The link below should help you out.

Thanks for the info...Im headed down there for a guys weekend this weekend (Janes Addiction is playing House of Blues Saturday night) ..from the research I did Piggy was the only decent store and Mellow Mushroom was the only decent place to get good beers...crappy thing is that my buddy's place is way up in North Myrtle so it will be a haul to the places above...

The trip to The Pig will definitely be worth it. Pick up some COAST and Westbrook. There is normally a keg of COAST on the growler station. We don't get any Mother Earth or Foothills (close to getting Foothills back). But u will find lots of Terrapin and Sweetwater (not their seasonals yet). New South and Liberty Steakhouse at Broadway are brewing some great beers these days and the mellow mushroom in MB and the Crafty Rooster in Conway both are boasting nice tap lists. Not much in NMB, i feel your pain - as this is where I live. But check the site listed above (thanks!) - the tap lists are updated and there are lots of events coming up if you are interested. Enjoy your trip!

Can I bring a growler to fill or does it have to be theirs?

as long as it's a screw top growler and not a swing-top, they will fill it.

Glad I asked...my favorite one is a swingtop!

if you are north by the house of blues, you can hit owens liquor vs. the 40 minute round trip to the pig. Not a large selection but you wil find westbrook and other quality beer. I got some mexican chocolate cake and farmhouse ipa a few weeks ago. Tbonz has the full new south draft and across the parking lot from hob.

My last trip to the PIG gave me Sculpin, before that Hopsickle, always something great at the growler station. Just a quick note, no beer sales on Sunday unless they've changed that law, so go prepared or work around it.

I LOVE the HOB. If you have time, eat at their restaurant prior to the show. Food is pricey but very good. You'll also get early entry to the show (if you're done before doors open) and save yourself a nice spot. One of my favorite venues. Let me know if you "see my wig around".

Yes, the law has changed. Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle have Sunday sales. Most of the rest of SC does not.

A few other spots at Barefoot Landing that have good beer - Flying Fish and Bully's.

That HOB is a great venue. If you guys are looking for something else to do while you are in town you might think about the Alligator Zoo. It is right next to HOB and is pretty cool. Its basically like a small zoo with lots of different animals but primarily they are all about the 'gators. They have some monsters in there and you can watch them feed them. They have what I believe is one of the largest crocodiles in the world. Its like 20 feet long. That thing is evil looking.

Another good restaurant is Dicks Last Resort. Good bar food and the service is just stellar!! They are famous for their service. :stuck_out_tongue:
