Visiting Seattle (Winter 2017 Update)

The Chuck's CD location, closest to downtown, is the best place to "load up on some local beer" for bringing home. You will not leave it empty-handed, though your wallet will surely be a little lighter. On the 16th, they are also releasing a brand-new IPA from Georgetown, one of our finest producers of hoppy ales. Cloudburst (right downtown) and Reuben's (a short bus-ride away) would be good places to go right now for additional top-flight hops and other excellent stuff. I'm not aware of any special releases occurring during your stay, but Holy Mountain and Fremont are de rigueur stops, too, whenever one visits Seattle.

I'm flying into Seattle tomorrow and just noticed that the Bottleworks' anniversary party is on Thursday. Does that get busy during the morning/afternoon or is it pretty chill?

Do people bring in personal bottles to share or is that not allowed?

Also looking for a few other places to eat in Seattle that will blow my mind; breakfast, lunch or dinner (does not need to involve beer)

 

Since the Ale Apothecary beer made for the anniversary got delayed, I'm not sure there is going to be a huge rush or crowd at opening.

Washington state isn't big on the bottle sharing like you're probably used to at home. It's technically not legal (unless you hand everything over to the staff and have them open it, and that policy depends on the establishment). I did have a Tired Hands growler there once, but I've never seen a big share go down at Bottleworks. Don't assume, if you brought something just ask the guy working there if it's ok.

Also, Toronado's food is pretty good and they're doing the Modern Times launch party on Wednesday. If you're into that kind of thing. I'll be there.

 

Nice, thanks for the info. I saw the anniversary beer wasn't ready but I'm assuming there will be some good stuff on tap or at least a past anniversary beer. I don't think I've had one since XII.

Massachusetts is very strict with all sorts of archaic drinking laws so bottle shares in bars are done discretely, if ever. I wasn't sure if WA bars are more lax.

The Modern Times event looks great! I forgot there was a Toronado in Seattle. I've been to Toronado SD a few times.

I am flying into Seattle Wednesday night and headed for Mt.Baker. What is the best bottle shop close to the highway to stock up on before we head north? Thanks in advance the rest of this thread has me dialed in for later in the trip.

 

stogies n hops and chucks greenwood are good options. a little further out of the way: bobs liquor and beer authority. also could stop into whole foods roosevelt square, PCC, or (insert a random gas station in north seattle).

 

Depending on what you're looking for, there's plenty of beer in the Bellingham area. Most of our local breweries package to some degree. But, if you've got your heart set on something specific, you'll have to tell us what. As a rule of thumb, our grocery stores and mini-marts carry enough different beer that you've never heard of to keep you from dehydration.

 

It's commonly on shelves, but given that commonality will likely not be as fresh as you are hoping (places like total wine, bevmo and large grocers).

 

Perfect, Spending Saturday night - Sundaynight in Seattle and will dial in specific breweries, just looking for a decent bottle shop or a place with growlers/crowlers to hold us over for 3 days. All the suggestions were great.

Thanks to @BuckeyeOne for maintaining / curating this thread. As a recent Seattle transplant, I've found it a great introduction to my new local craft beer scene.

I'm wondering if anyone has found an "ethnic" restaurant with a good taplist in the Seattle area? The closest I've found so far is Monsoon in Capitol Hill (great food, small but well chosen taplist) and some of the food trucks that rotate at Chuck's CD.

Side note: If it isn't clear, I'm using "ethnic" as a shorthand for not pub fare and not American or European cuisine. The restaurants recommended by this thread are great, but there is a bit of a blind spot in terms of what I'm looking for.

 

So I was walking to the store the other day (I'm in Green Lake on the other side of I-5 from Roosevelt) and noticed a sign for "alley tavern. craft beer!" just off 65th before Roosevelt. Apparently there's a nano brewery called Triple R that's set up shop in my hood. Nothing fancy, but they had a couple of their own beers alongside some locals and regional stuff. Need to check them out this coming weekend.

Red Papaya in Queen Anne. Maranation Makai on Alki. Yard Cafe in Greenwood if tacos are "ethnic" enough for you.

Revel and Joule have killer food and acceptable beer offerings (Fremont, Ft George, etc.).

I'd like to thank @Raj @distantmantra & @EdwardAbbey for the recommendations in this thread & for reaching out via BM. Although I wasn't able to make pickups during my trip to Seattle in January, I'm finishing another trip to Seattle this week & was able to get to both Chuck's CD & Holy Mountain. This was also my maiden voyage with my wine check, so I came ready to fly back to Chicago with a case of large format bottles! Here's how my purchases shook out:

What do people consider the most kid-friendly and beer-loving places to be in the greater Seattle area? I've lived here for over two years and have a 3 and 1-yr old so I have a pretty good idea as to where to go.....but I'm wondering if I'm missing anything.

To be clear, when I say 'most kid-friendly' I mean not only allowing of kids but also maybe has some kind of feature to keep kids entertained. My kids don't sit still for too long. To me, Fremont is hard to beat with the bleacher area and tub of toys. Am I missing any gems?

I dunno. My daughter is pretty chill and will sit at the table. Got lucky somehow.

Lucky, indeed. Little girls are a different breed from little boys (offering my two lovely but actively curious and destructive boys as evidence). My nieces are the same as your daughter....chill, put their toys away, etc. Oh well, at least I won't have to deal with boys on my lawn when that time comes; they will be on yours as we are likely blocks from each other in Tangletown

 

Good advice but, sadly, still illegal in our state for parenting options...who knows though, maybe His Tweetness will change this archaic law and allow us to Taser our kids

Optimism on cap hill has a literal child corral with toys. Beer isn't nearly as good as Fremont, but if you're looking for new options it would be one to try. They have food trucks pretty often and if you have a group of people you can reserve one of the larger tables for free. I seem to see a lot of people there throwing younger children's bday parties there with like catered or potluck spreads. Paseo is now down the street too.

Is Georgetown bodhizafa ipa available in bottles or cans?

 

Georgetown doesn't package their beers. Your best bet is a crowler around town or getting lucky at The Cannery in Ballard who offers custom six packs of whatever kegs they've got at the moment.

 

Thanks had it on tap last year and am heading to Seattle in a month for our last visit and wanted to search it out.

 

Bodhizhafa is all over town. Cheap growler fills at Georgetown, too.

 

Appreciate the tip, even if the board seems to be down on this brewery. Still, with kids, sometimes we settle for middle-of-the-road beer to keep the kids entertained and still enjoy the brewery atmosphere. Cheers.

I've still yet to hit up Optimism or Outer Planet. Once Roosvelt Station opens up I might be more interested in Capitol Hill.
