Is Voodoo doing an event this year?
By event I assume you mean a barrel room collection release where different bottles can be purchased?
Its tough to say. I think any potential "special release" beers are still resting in barrels. If one is coming, im guessing it wont be for awhile since they just released the buffalo trace grand negro voodoo papi bottles and they would have been a good candidate to be a part of a larger release like the apple brandy version was before.
only @voodoobrewery can answer that
NEED another Barrel Room release. It has been too long since we have partied at Voodoo. That said, I've heard whispers of Black Magick resting in barrels. They have been doing a bunch of more silent type releases recently, so maybe that will be the case with these. Hopefully, it's a party type release though
I'm doubting they will ever do a release where you have to camp overnight again, but they are Voodoo so you never know. It makes sense financially to drop them as one off's so you have more people coming through the Tap Rooms on several occasions.
They posted a picture a week ago on instagram of Wax pellets which could mean something is on the way. Or it could just be a picture of wax pellets.
A Facebook post from their Homestead location pages reads:
Stay tuned this coming Monday Feb 1st, we will be announcing the largest, most rad event we have ever planned @ Voodoo Brewery Homestead. Cheers!
If I were to guess, I would say that it's not related to any type of barrel aged release, but it looks like we'll find out tomorrow.
That's not whispers. There are pictures confirming it. I did a little investigation and they posted pics of those filled barrels around March so I can't imagine it being too much longer. But who knows, it's only speculation at this point.
Think the last group Black Magick variants were aged for nearly a year and a half, but someone else can probably confirm exact length of aging.
Makes sense that it would be black magick... They had fresh non barreled bmagick on firkin at last year's release at this time... along with ba maple syrup. Should be some fun variants of the best base stout out there
Guess I'll shamelessly feed the speculation train... What fun is beer without obsessing over what's next?
They had a Facebook post at the end of December advertising empty barrels for sale. Buffalo Trace and Heaven Hill. As far as I know, the GNVP was in Buffalo Trace exclusively... So what was in the Heaven Hill barrels and where is it now?
Yellow wax was the next pic. I'm really hoping for ManBearPig!!!!
What barrels were used for the Bourbon Barrel Maple Syrup and Honey? Pretty sure those barrels are current fill with ManBearPig and by my calculations, should be ready soon?!?!?!?!
18 months in the barrels. I don't think we'll see BM yet.
Also pretty excited for the BB Imperial BOC! But we have a long wait for that one!
Hopefully it has the vanilla beans like the firkins they had in the fall. That beer... Lord have mercy. One of the best beers I had in 2015.
*Warning this post contains sarcasm*
The beer tells the brewer when it is ready. There is no exact length of aging. Hasn't everybody heard that?
You mean from voodoo specifically or just in general?
Cause yes to both.
The other local brewers must be hard of hearing.
My drinking buddies and I got a kick out of this.
Was hoping you'd show up eventually.
Judging by how often I get reported, not everyone shares your enthusiasm.
so much abgm
No DBGM? Color me disappointed...
Talking voodoo outside the pittsburgh thread without me, like i cant hear ypu whispering...shame on you guys, you know I'm the biggest voodoo homer on here.
That said I hope there is never another camp out again. Barrel Room III release was the best one yet! Got to hang out the night before, relax, not be hammered the next morning, go to the pub, enjoy the beers on tap, stress free pick up of allotments. Loved it.
Surprise releases are great too, especially cause I'm local.
Wasn't there a barrel room beer released in fall?
I know I'm the minority, but I loved abgm!!
I enjoy a good overnight/camp out bottle share. Had a blast for BR I &II, but I much prefer the surprise release.
Voodoo encouraged the overnight/camp out of the first two releases which made no sense to me. It was completely unnecessary. I did not overnight either one, got full allocations, and had a good time in line making fun of all the drunken sloppiness.
Agreed on both accounts.
You da man!
Posting some more pictures on Instagram. Think a release is coming soon?
I don't know. Theyve been teasing on instagram for months... wish they'd fill us in already
VOODOO BREWERY BARREL ROOM COLLECTION IV
The employee owners of Voodoo Brewery are very pleased to announce today that we have scheduled our fourth Barrel Room Collection Release for Saturday March 26, 2016 with bottle pre-sales beginning today, Monday February 29, 2016 at both of our pub locations in Meadville and Homestead. Curt has been working hard since the last release to bring you 5 brand new beers to add to our collection, all aged 14+ months in the barrel. They are as follows:
Gran Met aged in Apple Brandy Barrels (22oz x 2 for first 106, 22oz x 1 for last 241)- Our third iteration of this beer, this special batch of Belgian tripel has been tucked away in the back of the barrel room for nearly 3 years. During its 33 month repose, this beer has gained massive apple brandy and oak overtones, truly blurring the lines of beer and spirit.
Quadfather aged in Cabernet Sauvignon Barrels (22oz x 2)- Seeing barrel treatment for the first time, our Belgian quadruple was aged in French oak California Cabernet Sauvignon barrels yielding a highly quaffable beer rich in vinous character.
Chocolate Covered Cherry Big Black Voodoo Daddy aged in Bourbon Barrels (22oz x 2)- This batch of Big Black was split and aged in two carefully selected varieties of bourbon barrels hand picked for the chocolate, vanilla and coconut flavors they impart with extended aging, along with Madagascar vanilla beans and Ghanaian cocoa nibs. Once removed from the barrel, fresh Michigan tart cherries were added resulting in a well balanced stout with notes of vanilla, chocolate, cherry, oak and bourbon.
Black Magick aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels (12oz x 4)- After a 3 year hiatus, our highly coveted award winning Russian imperial stout makes its triumphant return, this time after a lengthy slumber in rye whiskey barrels
ManBearPig (12oz x 2)- Curt came up with this crazy idea over 5 years ago and now, 3 years in the making, is finally ready for your enjoyment. He first started by seeking out the finest local honey and maple syrup and aged it in freshly emptied bourbon barrels for over a year. Then he brewed the biggest beer we've ever made, a robust imperial stout with house apple wood and hickory smoked Munich malt, and aged it in the barrels that previously held bourbon, maple syrup and honey. The result is a truly complex work of liquid art designed to be savored.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING VERY CAREFULLY:
We have a total of 106 full allotments available, sold as a full 12 bottle set at $206 which includes 2 bottles each of ManBearPig, Chocolate Covered Cherry Big Black Voodoo Daddy aged in Bourbon Barrels, Gran Met aged in Apple Brandy Barrels, Quadfather aged in Cabernet Sauvignon Barrles and 4 bottles Black Magick aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels. We have 241 partial allotments, which are identical to the full allotment except they include only one bottle of Gran Met aged in Apple Brandy Barrels instead of two, and are also sold as a full 11 bottle set at $186 only. The 106 full allotments will be sold to the first 106 sign ups, regardless of location. Once those have been sold, we will sell the remaining 241 partial allotments. We will only take as many sign ups as we have allotments, there will not be a waiting list of any sort. A valid drivers license or government issued identification card is required to sign up. You must physically be here in person with your valid ID to sign up- your friend can't bring IDs for 5 friends and sign you all up. No exceptions. Full payment is required to sign up, cash and credit cards are accepted. When bottles are released on 3.26.16, each person will again need to physically show up in person with your ID to claim your bottles. All bottles must be picked up by Sunday 4.10.16. The person who signed up in person must also pick up in person, no exceptions. We hope we have made how this process will work very clear. If, after reviewing this information, you still have questions, please email email@example.com ONLY. As you can imagine, this is a very busy time for us, so please, do not call either of the pubs or send facebook messages. We will keep our facebook page updated in terms of where we are with sign up numbers throughout the day. To help celebrate the occasion, both locations will also be tapping a keg of Grande Negro Voodoo Papi aged in Bourbon Barrels TODAY! More details to follow about the release parties at both locations on 3.26.16! Meadville opens at 3, Homestead at 4!
It's really nice of them to cater to the locals with the way they handle releases. It just sucks I'm not local. These all sound awesome
I agree, wish i was closer to get to try these.
I'm currently sick as I am driving from Tampa back to Pittsburgh today! The only way for me Is my mule! Just got #32 in line in homestead.......it's going fast
Chances are looking slim that arriving at 730 after a 3 hour drive would be worth the effort. I miss the old release format
Consolation prize, grande negro voodoo papi of draft!
Consolation prize for late comers? Or did you miss out?
Gnvp kicked so no consolation prize for late comers! I split alottment with my buddy who just happened to be in white oak at 3pm.and drove str8 there and got 32nd spot in line! At 320pm!
My last convo with curt was how they planned to have barrel room event for craft beer week so I assume this will make it a easy event with many draws that just became available! I really wanted gnvp on draft, but I have 2 bottles waiting for me! Just hoping more kegs will surface for craft beer week or shenanigans with bottle release!
