Then you can trade the beer you traded for. It's the never ending quest to not drink beer.

Yeah, that was kind of implied, no? It's not going to sit on my mantle. It's going right into my belly.

I've stood in line for 4.5 out of the 5 hours one day HF was open. Just kept getting back in line. Enjoyed talking to locals as well as out of staters. If I'm gonna me a trip up from MA gonna make it worth it. I also need a day to myself to relax.

I agree there are plenty of greats options in New England to choose from. I don't really have a desire to actively seek out other brews from outside NE. Shipping gets expensive man.

I'm not going to stand in crazy lines, but 2 hours is acceptable. I don't make the trip alone. I either go with my awesome wife or some of my awesome friends. I won't complain about spending time with them while pursuing great beers. The journey is part of the fun, my friends.

Maybe because that's implied when you're buying a bottled beverage?

I'm sure you're a chill and respectable dude, but every time you post something I read in the voice of Mark Wahlberg and picture him making that exact same face and it really annoys me. I figured I'd mention it since we are on the topic of "issues people have with random things"...

When the first thing you mention is being a hero to your friends and the thrill of the hunt, nothing is implied. I bought a six of Firestone Walker DBA tonight because I have wanted to try it for a long time and was quite sure I'd enjoy it and am drinking some now. I didn't wait in line, am not a hero to my buds, and didn't hunt a thing.....somehow I'm extremely satisfied.

My main reason for going on a road trip for beer would be... for beer. To drink. Sorry I didn't mention it. Again, seems like on the BA forum the one thing we all have in common is that we like to drink beer.

I didn't really mean "hero" as an ego thing... just that it's fun to come home and hand out awesome beers to friends. Is that really something to squabble over?

    Onward...

You're being pedantic. Whether it's something you snag off the shelf or drive and wait in line to acquire, any rational human would assume it was purchased to be consumed. Cripes.

I did wait in line once for 15 minutes and if there had been more people in line when got there I would have gone back home. I pretty much stopped making any effort to obtain the rare stuff, its not worth it. I'll "settle" for the stuff that doesn't get snapped up in 5 minutes or my homebrew.

I do like to make road trips, but not to events that would require waiting in line. Just to drink beers that aren't available at home.

Never have to wait in line, the beer buyer and owner of the store I go to tell me when they are getting certain beers and how many cases they will have, I just tell them what I want and they put it aside for me, it's one of the perks of going to a store that isn't run by pretentious beer snobs.

Love going to VT and the only line I've ever had to stand in was at HF, less than an hour in and out to the car. I sat on a sidewalk all night at foothills for BASC and will do so again, not only is it good it opened the door to some phenomenal trades.

I see both sides of this argument, I've only been to one release and we waited in line for 3 hours and I had an absolute blast for the reasons you stated. I do not know personally a single person who likes the beer I like so it was a lot of fun to talk to other like-minded ppl. However, I would never take actual time off work if I were busy go to a release. The beer is fantastic but I'd go more for the BSing in line. The beer is only worth the hype others place on it. My life will not be altered one bit if I never get to try all the rare and exotic beers but the memories of BSing with people are forever.

I did one release line. The people next to me were bragging about preventing people from trying whales, laughing at how they brought people who didn't even like beer to other releases to circumvent bottle limits, and just generally douching it up to the max. It was an hour of that standing on legs that require braces for the privilege of shelling out $40 on beer I honestly don't remember that well. Made me pretty okay with leaving the scene for a year.

I can understand that to an extent especially if it's for a good friend or if you are already getting some for yourself or if you are paying back having received an amazing trade package

I hate waiting in line. I've only done it a few times, the longest was 8 hours for hotd Matt release, but that was fun due to the people there. Not sure if I'd do it again but who knows. I think trying to get beer is getting harder because just two years ago some of the hard to get beer was easier. Not sure what is driving the craze but it's annoying. Just from the Matt release I learned many there weren't there for the beer but to mule. I can't fault them too much, I mean pocketing 300 bucks for a few hours isn't too bad. I'm still licking my wounds from the bourbon county vanishing within minutes, and in some cases places hoarded it for events.

You live in VT, you will never understand it because you're always on the receiving end of people waiting in line for beers just to trade! I 100% agree with you, but so many people aren't as blessed. If they live near one good brewery anywhere nearby they feel the need to jump on every "limited" bottle release to trade for all of the things they don't have the "ammo" for normally.

While the lines and the excitement of 'next release' have grown; I personally don't mind waiting in line. Truth be told; some of the coolest, most generous people I have met were in a bottle share line, tastes of fantastic beers; great camaraderie and lasting friendships; who would say no to that?
